Sorry no progress on the build yet, although It appears in my brief absence you guys have been able to entertain yourselves.  :icon_jokercolor:

Nice to hear that I can just install the studs not and protect them easily. THANK YOU guys for being so helpful. This is why is started the forum here as apposed to other boards.

Respectfully,

We are  here to serve.

Now get cracking on that build before we fill the entire thread with movie clips from youtube. :icon_thumright:

RE: pickups ... I have the Gibson 57 Classics in my 339 and wouldn't go any hotter than those .( 7.8k)

I am watching this thread close. I've been waiting to do a build from a kit. Thought it was going to be an SG doubleneck but this kit looks much nicer for 200 bones...

Well it's been a long ass time. A combination of the GTO breaking further and somebody T-Boning my Aztek has delayed us quite a bit. So I'm basically picking up just where we left off.

I have installed the bridge studs and with a mock up of the neck set in, It looks like the action should be pretty nice.

I'm planning on hitting woodcraft today for some glue. Figured I'll use it for setting the neck and I can use it for replacing that cheap plastic piece of crap they glued to the end of my fretboard with a real nut on my epi.

Question: I'm planning on spraying a vintage tint on the neck instead of doing a standard clear coat. However I'm not going to spray the tinted lacquer on the body. Should I finish the neck and body separately or will I be able to seamlessly flow over to a clear lacquer at the neck joint? Tips Tricks Tropes troupes trickles trollys?

Thankya

Mask the body and shoot the neck with the tinted lacquer until it's the color you want it, then unmask and shoot clearcoat until you're happy with it.

Looks like a sound plan. Helpful as always Baggy.

I gotta say It's been about 2 months but I'm still digging the idea of Turquoise dye with the cream accents. Looks like it's gonna stick.

Hopefully heading over to Woodcraft today. If I don't spearhead the project It'll never get done. I don't plan on removing the neck later so I'm not gonna go with hide glue. Most likely the titebond glue. Not sure If there is a certain type which works best or if it really just matters if It sticks or not.

Thank you

Picked up some Titebond yesterday. Damn I love the people at Woodcraft. Friendly and helpful as I've ever met.

Curious. Anybody know where Warmoth gets their turquoise dye. Do they mix it themselves or is it a base dye? Not sure If you guys know how hard it is to find a turquoise dye. I found this transfast dye powder but I'm curious if the quality is sound. Seems a little shifty.

I know I could pick up some green and blue and dye and mix It myself but If I don't have to spend 40 bucks on dye I'm not going to.

Anyways, once I get a proper stain picked out, I'm gonna head back over to Woodcraft and get sandpaper, dye, clear coat lacquer, I've heard I'll need some sanding sealer, and if they carry some painter's tape, I'll get some for masking off the binding. I'll need to check with my father to see if he has any sanding blocks, if not, I'll get some too.

Everything I'll read seems like stuff I can do but I have one concern. Being that it's not a bolt on neck, what can I use to hang on to it for spraying coats of lacquer and letting it dry? There I am lost.

Thank you

Mr. Latty,

Tonar asked me to drill the strap button hole on the base of my LP jr he's finishing for me.  The guitar hangs from an eyelet screwed into that hole:

Mayfly, That post made me smile pretty hard for two reasons.

1. That sounds like a wonderful idea. Simple, easy to execute, effective, and low cost.

2. Because you called me Mr. Latty.

Much Much appreciated

Plus, you need that hole anyway.
