sorry guys, but "tattoo" sux so much it's not even funny! :-\ Unfortunately, I think their best days are behind them, they're beating a dead horse IMO...

I don't know that I'd go so far as to say all that, but it's true that it isn't much to write home about. It reminds me of something South Park/The Simpsons/Family Guy might use as a soundtrack behind a concert cut scene to give the impression a rock band was playing. That is to say, it's fairly simplistic - as if it only took about 12 minutes to write, including the sophomoric lyrics. Throw in some signature EVH octave jumps/artificial harmonics/deep dives, and Poof! Sounds serious, in a cartoonish sort of way.

But, hey. Britney Spears has made a lotta money. Concerts pay. Recordings don't. If they didn't invest properly while the gettin' was good, they gotta have a reason to tour, so...

funny you mention family guy..
I always kinda pictured you as a cartoon too!!!  :laughing7:

You have managed to more completely articulate what I meant when I said "Ed-schtick."

Vis-a-vis where the money is in the music biz, I reckon VH are doing better on the mailbox money (aka royalties) than, say, the Starland Vocal Band, what with their position as a Classic Rock Radio staple.  And Ed's likely taking home more than chicken-feed on his licensing/endorsement deals with Fender.  Although who knows how Dave and Al are doing in that department.  I reckon the new record will improve Al's marketing cachet enough to get some higher-value endorsement deals as well.  And Wolfie's just getting started - who knows, maybe the kid will join a band with a future, instead of just a past!

Anyhoo...

You are all over-analyzing this whole situation!
It is great they have recorded new stuff and I like the new single, it's fun.
I hope it will be a hit, since it is better than 90% of the other crap that you hear on the radio.

it is clear that Wolfie is a great musician from both the recent live recordings and the '97 shows. (and I don't care that they piped in Micheal Anthony's vocals for those shows, if they did. Most live acts are cheating with backing vocals anyway) and they are definitely not slowing down for him.

Just get the sand out your Vajajays and enjoy!
Sorry Marko, I have to disagree, you're just being bias because the VH boys are from you neck of the woods. There's a ton of great new music all over the radio.. :icon_biggrin:

hahaha, well I have seen you with Gary Cherone!! I guess you are disappointed he is no longer in the band! ;)
:laughing11:, actually when Sammy joined I thought I was the meld of 2 of my favorite...

Just heard Tattoo for the first time... horrible

Would rather see Chickenfoot in concert.

I finally sat through the whole thing - more than anything, I am just reminded again why I listen to about 80% instrumental music. There's a lot of stuff I'd rather be doing than watching that (again). I can't really say it's even worse than whatever else they're competing against, their own "legacy" or Justin Beiber or the new Guns and Roses or the new Rolling Stones video, whatever - if I remember correctly, I thought "Jump" was a pretty prancy P.O.S. back when it was "the bomb" too. Happy smiley Eddie, happy smiley Mikey, wiggly smiley Dave... being the best hair band still makes you a hair band!

(the "new" Stone song is a reject from 1972's "Exile" sessions, which is about where any of this discussion really belongs - who did what, back in the "good old days.")

On the other hand, EVH could play things no one else could for a few years there:

"Eruption" was pretty ridiculous.

What would be really great is if both VH and Chickenfoot broke up. Then Gary Cherone, Wolfie Van Halen and That Chili Peppers Drummer Guy would all be free to form a new supergroup. With like Yngwie or Buckethead or whoever would really piss people off.

Why can't this be love - VH
How does it feel when it's love -VH
Is this love - White Snake

Try to not get these songs confused with each other when thinking how ea

ch goes.

booo! This sucks! I am officially going to pass for the VH show this year.

90 dollars for the very sucky upper ring seats! and I would pay $165 if it was a really good spot, but I guess the only good ones not picked up by scalpers (20 minutes into the amex presale) are at the far back of the lower ring..

I guess I am not such a fanboy after all... or just cheap.

I wouldn't pay any amount of money to see them, I doubt I'd go if it were free.. Sorry but I've just lost all respect or interest in anything new from them. :dontknow:

It's called maturity, and shifting priorities. So you'd rather not enrich some piss-ant middle-man so you'll have the privilege of sitting in Siberia to see a geriatric version of what was once a pretty awesome live show.  You'd rather keep the money and do something less stressful.  It's okay, you'll get used to being unwilling to endure the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune just 'cause all the cool kids are doing it.

Chin up - it gets even better from here!

...except for the wear and tear on the physical plant, and the increasing frequency with which you'll find yourself muttering, "Kids these days..."

I wouldn't pay $90-$165 to see anybody.  :dontknow:

...But I am going on the Monsters of Rock Cruise 2012...  :cool01:
