It looks like from the photo that the volume pot input and output have been transposed on his wiring versus the diagram.
By the way, this is generally known as Brent Mason style wiring due to how he had his Tele with three pickups wired by Joe Glaser for versatility from one guitar. It does mention it on the diagram but not so far in the thread.
