I Have This Body... Bobber Build Thread

Got the PG pattern done except for needing to make an adjustment. Where the control plate pattern joins it, there wasn't enough room for one of the mounting screws.

That meant making a whole new control plate pattern. Fortunately I had an old Roadhouse pattern lying around so I modified that. Other than needing to adjust the location of the control holes, it worked out fine.

A pencil through the holes shows they need to move a bit. The pencil line on the body shows where the plate will be.

Test fit with the neck. All looks good.

The next step will be to locate the bridge plate and then cut the PG pattern around that.

Looking very good there, Robert. Your attention to detail is stellar.
Maybe you should call Ron Thorn and ask him if he needs some help with anything.

Thanks, Magnus. Thorn does amazing work. He can probably get by without my help.  :icon_biggrin:

Thank you, Doug. The more I fiddle with it, the better I like it. Been massaging the PG pattern a little today. I am waiting for a bit for my centering drill so I can mount the bridge. I'm adding a coil split on each pickup. Those will probably get put in the PG, too. That cool neck plate you made will get put on this one.

That is looking very good. I'm impressed with your attention to detail, you are a very creative individual.

Thanks, this one is loads of fun to work up. It's kind of a test bed for a few things. Nothing that hasn't been done already but stuff I've been wanting to try.

Thanks, Steve. I guess the next step will be to make the pickguard and control plate.

Man that's really looking great! Nice job!
Another build on here that I think, man, if I had the $$$ I'd say build another one for me!

Thanks.

LOL, I feel that way about many builds I see here on the forum. :icon_biggrin:

I got the pickguard cut and mounted the switches and neck pickup to check fit. Except for the pickup screws hitting the bottom of the cavity, all was good. That'll be a quick fix. I tapped the screws lightly and will hit those spots with a 1/2" Forstner bit to give them room. I cut the bevel at 45 degrees since the material is 3-ply and that will show off the center accent layer better than a 30 degree bevel. I also have the pilot holes for the mounting screws done. After I transfer those to the body, I'll drill them out and counter sink them for the screws.

EDIT: I replaced the photo with a better one.

Thanks, Magnus. The next step is to grind down the bridge humbucker so it fits in that Tele single coil bridge rout. :icon_biggrin:

Give it a good squeeze in a bench vise, boom, Bob's your uncle.

That's a good idea. I'll try that first.

I had just enough of the right thickness stainless to make the control plate. After the mounting screw holes are transferred, I can drill those out to the correct size, counter sink them and drop it off at Mirror Image to be polished to a fine luster.
