EVH wolfgang build

before z-poxy

after one coat.  I will likely have 3-4 more to go.  sanding in between

HEre is a good shot of the z-poxy drying.

I have a question since you all have been so helpful.  For the top I am considering a SMALL accent burst around the edge.  No more that 1 inch.  I want as much of that wood to show as I can.  Should I leave it?  Burst with tobacco?  Burst with Black??

Another intersting thing is happening.  Everytime I sand and hit with the epoxy, the wood detail increases.  Things that make you go MMMMMM. :icon_scratch:

Thoughts??

Yes, I should add, both will look lovely, tobacco is just my personal favourite burst on spalt. The important thing is, darkening at the edges will give a more sculpted, defined look to the edges of the guitar. It'll look great.

Lovin' this build.  This is my first consideration of Zpoxy and it sure won't be the last.  Easy and vapor free is a fine way of life.  If it looks that good, that kinda clinches it.
My Tru-oil build is going well, and it looks great, but it doesn't fill grain, and it seems to smell like stale coconut oil forEVER...  :-\

Can you manage the viscosity of Zpoxy, for slower/faster drying?

I'd say ix-nay on the burst. That is such a kick ass top, to cover it up any at all would a shame...

I think so.  IF you add more of the catalyst is will set up faster.  Honestly, a 30 minute work time is fine.  The stuff is rock hard in 3 hours.  That is light speed compared to nitro.  I am on what looks to be my 3rd, and final coat.  This stuff builds fast and sands back real nice with 220.

That is kinda what I was thinking...but tobacco brown.  VERY transparent.  I assume that was a tonar finish.  I wonder what ration he used for dye/lacquer??

I think my plan is to leave the top natural (for now) and hightlight the sides and back with tobacco.  I will shoot the entire thing with some clear 1st.  The way I look at it, what i do not like, I can always sand off.

I do have a small piece of spalt left.  I may practice on that.

Dude, he already cut a bunch of it off. If you ask me, he should have made a big rectangular guitar, cutting off pieces of wood that nice is a crime.

I still have the wood.... :glasses10:  Unfortunately, a guitar can only be so big!! :eek:ccasion14:

I am attempting to plane it down to put some on the headstock (if I can get it thin enough).  I am also making control covers if enough is left..  It will NOT go to waste!!!

A giant Bo-Diddley would have been killer!!!! :party07:

laminated guitar picks... drink coasters, earrings for your posse, computer monitor surrounds, you better order up another piece.... :guitaristgif:

I made several picks from leftover ziricote from my soulmate neck. They are pretty cool, you wouldn't thing wood could hold up as a pick but it does quite nicely.. :headbang1:
