First time builder, long time lurker. I have the usual stuff in my current arsenal (Strat, Flying V, Les Paul, SG, JEM), but I wanted to do something that is awesome, just not common.  So, I am at the front end of my first Warmoth build that hopefully won't suck.  This is a chambered swamp ash body with a quilted maple top and a transparent black finish.  I have the rest of the parts coming as I can afford them.  Next up: Warmoth maple neck, black block inlays and a quilted headstock (natural finish) to compliment the body.  Definitley using chrome hardware, just not sure what brand.  I will post as it comes along. Now for the proof...

Pickups are a continuing quandry for me.  There is a near three-way tie between Dimarzio Area T's, Fender N3's and a yet-to-be determined Fralin setup.  Basically, I want a traditional Tele sound, but a little more versatility.  I would love to hear any personal preferences ya'll have.

Here are two rough mock ups (pick guard, no pick guard).  I hate to admit it, but I am leaning towards the pearl pick guard.

White pearl always looks good against black, but I'm not sure I'd want to cover up all that beautiful quilted figuring. Lotta money down the pisser. Besides, pearl guards against figured woods sometimes can be a little busy looking.

There you go! Straighten out that headstock orientation problem and build it!

Cagey, you've inspired me.  I'm still not completely sold on it, but here is the latest mock up....

Don't listen to Cagey, leave it just like this...Looks awesome... :headbang1:

Yep agree on the last pic  :icon_thumright: .... But
What about a Chrome covered neck pup (wood mounted) with NO mount ring .......  :blob7:
Just think that'll look much sharper looking.

That neck mount ring just looks to wide to the rest  :dontknow:

The pup ring does kinda look like a sore thumb.  Thanks for the input Updown.  That just may be the way to go.

I turned the headstock around just for kicks and i liked the way it looked.  I've never owned one like it, so can anyone give me some ups and downs having it oriented that way or is it just a taste thing?  :icon_scratch:

No difference, just a personal thing ........ personally I don't like it reversed  :tard:

Here's examples of pup rings.
Where I've used them ....

Personally I like the look of the reverse headstocks, plus it's ergonomically correct for tuning... :headbang1:

Some may argue, but they're wrong... :rock-on:
