Why does there have to be a limit to how many total donations are bought?  I mean, a limit of 5 per individual is cool, but why any limit other than a time limit?  There could be a HUGE total for the winner and RESPECTABLE total for second place, regardless of number of entrants.

This might be fine; however, this is not was agreed upon when the donations began.
Ya can't change the rules in the middle of the game...
:rock-on:
It's already been bumped from 125 to 200 after it started.

This is true!!!  But, I think this is because so many tickets were sold so quickly, the limit was exceeded before the brakes could be applied...
I am fine with the increase to 200 tickets; however, for the integrity of the process, there has to be a limit to the number of changes made to the rules.

If this many people are interested in this type of event, it seems like more support for a semi-annual or quarterly event.
Let's find a great charity to support so we might do some good for others along the way.  :headbang1:

For the record, if I win and I have cash left over after the build (which it looks like the winner will have unless they decide to make a Les Paul out of solid gold or something), it's going to a music-related charity, or I will donate it to the art high school that I work for.

there has to be a limit to the tickets and not just a time frame. by limiting the number of total tickets people can caculate there total odds from the start and decide if they want to participate and how much they want to contribute. if it is just based on time there is no way to determine the total tickets sold up front therfore no way to determine your odds. That being said there has been a few changes along the way and no more can be made. there are still a few tickets left for those who are interested.

Another reason to cap the tickets is to limit the amount of money that's in the raffle. I don't know about you guys, but I don't want $3000 at stake.

I can promise you guys and gals, $1500 will go fast if you are planning a nice guitar. Especially if you go carved top or get something with nice flame or quilt. It definitely would not have paid for Blue or Burn Unit.

Agreed...
My current Firebird came in at slightly over $1500 for the body and neck; nothing else...

Well, before this gets out of hand, it was my understanding that the last raffle didn't really get this much attention. I remember reading that they actually had to open it up for people to buy 2 more tickets or something like that so they could fill it up.

Now, I'm guessing that the person in charge was pretty much expecting the same thing. You can't blame him really. But this took off like a wildfire and now we've been bumped up to 200 tickets. Personally, I preferred the odds of 5 out of a hundred than 5 out of 200 but it is what it is.

I suggest after this is all said and done that we work on a standard set of rules for this thing, if we're going to plan on doing it again in the future.

I feel sorry for the people that won't be on here until this weekend or those of you that don't get paid until next week etc... but again, it is what it is. All I could offer is that you use your CC with paypal and pay it back when you get paid.

No, monthly is too often.  I think it should be annual.  We should allow as many entries as we can get.  That way we have a really big prize pool, we can donate a chunk of it to charity, and still buy a baller guitar for the winner.

One could get a super nice LP and exotic neck for that, if it were to be chosen from the showcase. Maybe even a few bucks left over for some little tid bits... :icon_biggrin:

The point here isn't to give away a guitar a month, its to do something special once a year. Monthly, it'd be like Powerball. Plus there'd be no way anyone would want to put in $50 or even $10 a month for a much smaller pot. I am okay with the odds and glad this got capped at $2000, as we're talking about guitars here and not a new studio or a used car. $2000 keeps it relevant, but still worthwhile.

With the way it's running this time, my suggestions for next time would be to do it annually, and limit it to 3 tickets per participant, 200 tickets total. By the way, you all do realize that some of us will have to pay customs duties if we win, and the bigger first prize, the more we would have to cough up. If Fernando wins we may have to organize a second charity event to help him pay the taxes (for the record, Brazil appears to be the country where importing guitar parts is most expensive).

remember being a kid....before vcr's and beta. You had to wait all year for the Wizard of Oz to play on tv. You would count down the days and there was no way you were going to miss it. Counting down the days till the weekend trip to Disneyland was the best feeling in the world. Then you got a DVD player and have Wizard of Oz on the shelf the feeling is gone you can watch it anytime you want. You now have an anual pass to Disneyland and can come and go as you please...the outcome is the same but the feeling and excitement are gone. I think the same thing would happen with this. Twice a year might be ok but anually I think rocks.

my 2 cents

Agreed. It should be a January thing to kick off the new year the right way. Either that or do it around October so the winner gets a good X-mas present.

By the way, I was just perusing the bodies on Warmoth and I think I could be swayed to do a Jazzmaster with a really highly figured top and then get all modern with it and do it up with a Floyd Rose......either that or a hard tail. Not fond of that Jazzmaster trem at all though.

How about annually, and on a specific date? In that way you'd really have that anticipation. Christmas, New Years Day, Unofficial Warmoth Charity Event Drawing Day...

everyone who wants a vintage spec'd jazzmaster would want a jazzmaster trem, but I can't think of anyone else who would except maybe sonic youth.

That sounds like a polite way to say outdated. But, to each their own. I don't play guitar so oddball whammys dont affect me much. One thing this board has taught me is that everything is awesome to someone.
