Here's my latest project so far. I had a solid piece of bubinga that was big enough to make a one piece top without bookmatching. I sent it to Ken at the custom shop along with a 2x4x36" 5a maple billet. He sent me back two necks and a super hollow body. The body is two piece mahogony with contoured heel and my top wood. Very light.3lb.1oz. Pictures show it in the final drying and shrinking stage after initial polish. One more sand and polish and it will be ready to complete. The neck is flame mapple with headstock veneer from same billet as body top. ebony fretboard with abalone markers. Standard thin with 6105 stainless frets and graphite nut. The electronics are going to be a little different. custom wound lace sensors with Gold plated covers and Gold trim rings. pots and wiring harness are the fender custom shop "greasebucket" style. They come off the highs without adding base. I'll post more when it all comes together. I can't say enough about Ken at Warmoth custom shop. Extremely knowledgeable and helpfull.

did you actually buy the wood elsewhere and THEN gave it to Ken ? I'm amazed Ken would do that ! ! ! and Ken is a great guy ! :icon_thumright:

Yes, there is somewhere in the warmoth site somethink alike this:
"Yes, we accept to you bring your own wood to be used in the build and if it's in condition we'll use it, but usually our wood is better than the ones people bring to us and you'll have to pay the same price withouh bringing it..."

So if you'll US$300 in a body, and give them a top that you like the figuring, you'll pay the US$300 and, if it's in a good enough condition, they'll use! :icon_thumright:

Good god, man!  That thing is crazy!  And I would like to reiterate RLW's statement that HARDTAILS DO INDEED RULE!

Just one word......WOW....  That's Uber cool, with the two little dots over the "U"...

Yes They will use your own wood. benefits are you know exactly the moisture content the tone qualities AND if you want extra fancy wood, You can get it from warmoth for an EXTRA cost and you will only be able to see a picture of it. I am fortunate enough to live in an area where there is a lot of fine wood. I did however have to go long distance for the bubinga. Here is a picture of some claro walnut I got 5 miles from where I live.

That's a sweet piece of claro....I did the same thing with my tele I had made, but it wasn't made by Warmoth. At the time i didn't know they'd do that. If you don't mind me asking what did they charge you to use your own top.?

Here's my spalt i got and the Tele that was made from it..

god D*MN that claro is COOL! this axe is cool in its totallity! the bubinga, the neck, the bodyback... love it! Congratulations man. I hope you put some nice pickups in them (creme colored bobbins?) and not stuff like EMG"s or something, so you can really hear all the woods.

If you supply just the top wood, they charge for whatever body wood you choose. If you send in all your wood, They charge for the cheapest body wood (poplar) plus a 30.00 special handling charge. I think this charge varies from nothing to whatever depending on what a pain in the ass you are. I was only a slight pain hence the 30.00 surcharge.

Nice tele, great wood. I'm thinking of building a thinline. I ended up with an identical piece of bubinga when i resawed the billet. I'm thinking of making an identical set of guitars. including the neck woods.

Look at Marko's Thinline... That is a thinline...

I still can't understand why people like their guitars to look like coffee tables.  :dontknow:  haha, sorry I figured you had enough praise here that one negative comment couldn't hurt.  :laughing8:
