Green Paisley B-Bender Tele

Bio-Paisley.  I thought about that as well.  There are still quite a few levels of nerdiness to go, don't worry about that...

Allright folks,

It's all packaged up and on it's way to Tonar.

Hey Doug!

Here's another possible paisley design for the neckplate:
Yep, that's a possibility.... :icon_thumright:

Although it looks more like an amoeba than the other's did.... :icon_biggrin:

I like hannaugh's idea,. ameobas or some little creatures, as well as everyones input here, it's gonna rule.  Tonars probably wondering what he got himself into.

Thanks everyone!

An update:  I got a UPS shipping notice regarding the neck for this guitar yesterday.  I figured it would be several days before it arrived, but it reached me at work at about 11:30 today!  That was fast.

The neck is verrrry nice - pictures later.

Call it the Green Fluorescent Protein Caster.

They actually made a GFP rabbit that glows green. How cool is that?  :laughing3:

Here's da neck!

Even looks good on the test body:

More neck work coming, but here's a teaser:

Hey!  Why is that brand new exotic wood neck clamped in the drill press?

What the hell are you doing on it? :laughing7:

It's matching very nice with the pasley, way better than the mock up :icon_thumright:
Congrats!

Going for the the neck mounting ferrules I see.  Why the heck not, this guitar has all the trimmings already!  :headbang1:

Are you doing a finish?  The only thing mine has been treated with (besides my hands) was some 600 grit.  I'm having no issues.

Funny you asked about the finish - I was going to ask you if you used lemon oil or something on it.  It does feel pretty good just raw, so I don't want to do anything more than oil - if I even do that.

More pics of the insert installation coming...

Blue is our winner!  We're going to install some threaded inserts in the neck!

Bender guitars have their necks constantly pushed down.  This causes the neck screws to loosen up and then the neck moves on you.  Not much, but enough to ruin that delicate country bend in that murder ballad.

The solution is these things:

I got these particular ones from vinteque....  Just Kidding  :icon_jokercolor:
I actually got them from onyxforge: http://www.onyxforgeguitars.com/Insert%20kit.html

I used the Scuttlefunk method of installation:

First line it up using a small drill bit that just fits in the stock holes:

Then start cutting!!

<riiiing>
"Hello, Dave's house of wax.  We have candles for every need"
"I'm looking for a really ugly candle"
"I'm sorry sir, but all of our candles are finely crafted beautiful works of art.  None are ugly"
"Are you sure that you don't have one in the back that you're embarrassed to bring out?"
<pause>
"I think we might have something that will suit you sir...."

A little candlewax on the insert threads, and with the allen key in the chuck of the drill (operated by hand), and the first insert is in:
