Fender Pawn Shop series?

I just think this is ridiculous. Or maybe I just don't understand it. I'm just glad I found Warmoth, where I can bypass all this nonsense and build the guitar I want. Some of the gimmicks the big name guitar makers are putting out just confuse the hell out of me these days.

You're not alone. Who knows what evil lurks in the minds of marketing weenies?

You're making the dubious assumption that marketing pukes have minds....

Which is great for us but a lot of people can't afford to go Custom and even with Warmoth's more cut-down prices compared to custom shops, a lot of people don't want the hassle of putting the guitar togther or finding and paying someone else to do it.

The more, and the more varied, models that big brands put out, the better. There's no point in Fender making yet another three-single-coil, trem-equipped, top-routed Strat. There is a point in them releasing a semi-hollow '51 design with a neck humbucker and better build quality than the Squiers had.

I have to agree with Ace, how many versions of a Les Paul can you put out till it is all just mumble jumble, Ask Gibson they are already past that point
Fender is doing it different, putting out stuff that is  outside the box.
Now, I really do not think I am going to buy any of those, but then I had to come to Warmoth to get my idea done, P 90s on a Tele, everyone thought I was nuts, after hearing it though they all freak out.

A friend was looking for a first guitar and decided on an HSS strat. I searched on one web store and found 13 models from $180 to $1550. If you add in HH and classic SSS, I'm sure you would get over 40.

Good point. But, I've never thought they were stupid. They're just cold-hearted, misguided and pathologically opportunistic. I'm quite sure they sit at the right hand of Satan. If lawyers are lower than whale crap, then marketing weenies are the foundation they rest upon.

The Ibanez Jet King was meant to have a pawn shop vibe as well, and I think it's more convincing in that regard than Fender's offering.

That one is cool as hell.

The only reason one can ever be forced to say that they have too many axes is when the wife endorses a heavy threat.

I dunno about this line. Like others, I REALLY don't like the look of the exposed and the covered pickups together. Not on a Fender, at least. The Mustang I like, and I like the fact that Fender actually put a working bridge on it. As it sits, I could see that being a wicked little slide guitar. If one were to play it conventionally, I think maybe a 25 1/2" neck may help some things out. The '51 suprises me. To me, that seems like the first time that a strict Squire model was ever cantonized into a Fender.

The only other thing I can see coming out of this series is a less expensive version of that limed edition Telecaster Fender did a few years ago, with a mated Strat pickguard, pickups and layouts. I haven't been able to find a picture of it to show--maybe someone remembers this thing and can help.

You can all help yourself to Eastwood Guitars then.  Those Kays, Kents, all that stuff, pickups that don't work or sound good when they do, binding that has come off, necks beyond adjustment, tuners that don't tune, redundant switches, weird scale lengths.  Meh bigtime.

I'm with you. Useless instruments, and a dime a dozen. Most of them don't even make good firewood because you don't know what's in the finish.
