    The Magentalist

I play this guitar more and more these days.  It is loaded with a BKP Aftermath bridge humbucker and at first I really didn't like it.  It was almost too defined, but now when I go back to some of my other guitars they are just noisy and sound like shite.  The soulmate neck profile is a...

    The Magentalist

Soulmate necks are pretty reasonable.  He doesn't have compound radius options, and he does all the contouring by hand, whereas Warmoth likely has CNC programs to develop and do the cutting of various radii etc.  I also don't think he is offering stainless frets yet, but its worth checking.   ...

    The Magentalist

HI Marco78 The body was finished by Warmoth, in a non-standard finish called Magenta burst.    I have only seen two or three others done in that finish and I have liked all of them.    The neck was finished by Doug who makes Soulmate Necks.    Thanks for the kind words on the guitar. DW

September 2012 Guitar of the Month Contest Submissions

Spalted maple is not a choice you can usually make on the website.  I think it is a wood that is not in stock often enough that they could routinely offer it.    I ordered by phone after inquiring if they had any good pieces  large enough to be used in a Vee.  The fact that it has some pretty...

Thanks to everyone who voted for my guitar.    It really means a lot to me, especially with all of the other amazing instruments on display this month.    It took me a long time to complete this build as I was agonizing over every little feature and decision.  I am honored that many of you...

Spalted V - Work in Progress

My understanding is that Ivoroid is a cellulose based material which is not the same as a plastic pickup ring.    It has a grain structure and appearance more closely approximating real ivory.    The rings are hand made from a block of Ivoroid/cellulose compared to mass produced plastic...

Spalted V - Work in Progress

Finally Done!!  It took since just after Christmas to finally get this thing to the point that I can plug it in and have some fun. Well worth the wait. Pickups are MadHouseDesigns Walter set in zebra. Got some very special real ivoroid pickup rings made to match the body binding etc.   ...

    The "Magentalist"

She finally arrived.    There was some considerable delay to this project body which I won't go into.    However, big thanks to Rob for picking the top for me and everyone at Warmoth for making things right.  I had asked for something with small and tight quilt, instead of big puffy clouds. ...

Just got shipping notice from Warmoth last Friday that the body for my "Magentalist" project has shipped.  Unfortunately, it usually takes two weeks to clear customs and get to my place in Canada, but its on its way!!

    HELP with speednobs

Doing some final assembly for my warmoth project and running into a small inconvenience.    I have the warmoth pots and their amber speed knobs, however, they don't seem to be mating very well.  On my first go, I pushed so hard that I broke the pot into two pieces in the rear. What is the...
