warmoth neck heel markings

I'm looking at a second hand warmoth neck and trying to determine its specs.  The heel has the "Warmoth Radius" stamp so I assume it must be a compound radius neck.  The guy insists it is a 12" radius, though.  Also, there is a 1.696 written on it and a red dot sticker.  Any idea what those mean?  It's an angled strat neck.

Right. I think it was Wylie who said that number is the actual nut width down to the millionth (or so), so that would be a 1 11/16" nut width. And a Warmoth Radius is compound, no matter what the average ebay genius says. There should also be a 4 digit number that identifies the fret size, and if it says SS or G, then they're stainless steel or "gold".

A millionth is 10-6. 1.696 is to the thousandth. :dontknow:

I said "or so", didn't I? <grin>

You should know I was a software engineer for many years, and have a degree in electrical engineering. I know a lot of numbers. I even know other numbering systems besides decimal, some of which are so advanced they even include letters.

You earthlings think you're so cute with your three dimensions...

Yeah, it also has6105 on it but I knew that was the fret size.  I thought the other number might be nut width but was confused that it wasn't right on 1 11/16

Well, the actual size would be 1 705/1012", but nobody uses weird fractions like that. You simplify to a commonly used fraction.

The red dot does mean satin finsh.  The dot is applied before the finish because the finish is so thin they get many a phone call saying there is no finish.  The customer can then remove, or try to remove, the dot to confirm the finish.  Also, the compound radius, some look down the fretboard and think the neck is twisted.  Others look down it and think they received a straight radius.  Depends on your eyes I guess.

Interesting. That's a great idea, actually.

He says his radius gauge measures it as 12.  I haven't seen it in person, just pictures.  I'll believe the stamp :).

Good for you! So... whaddaya gonna build with it?

I'm not sure if it has a corian nut or the tusq so I may end up knocking it out and putting in something different.  I've never used either (I have the black graphtech nut on another guitar and like it).
I already have an Inca Silver Robert Cray Strat body for it.  I'm gonna put a white pickguard with white Wilde L-45 pickups.  I'm going to also use a Megaswitch E 5-way so the middle position will be neck+bridge pickups.  I've never used the middle pickup by itself anyway.  I used to have a G&L S-500 that had a toggle for that and I liked the option of having that combo on a strat.
I'm not sure whether I'll go with vol and 2 tones or vol, tone, and TBX or something weirder.  I'll probably start with vol + 2 tones and go from there.
For the bridge, I thought about going with a hipshot, but I have a set of graphtech saddles laying around so I am looking for a cheap vintage size flat mount bridge plate and I'll put those saddles on there.  If I don't like it, I haven't spent much and I can upgrade to the hipshot.

Those Wilde L-45 pickups sound awfully sweet. I looked up a couple/few videos of them, and was impressed. Good players, though. Gotta give them credit.

I like those hipshot hardtail bridges. I have one on a project right now that I'm looking forward to living with. If it was me, I'd go straight to that, rather than mess around with the vintage Strat hardtail, but that's just me.

The "Megaswitch" or "Superswitch" can be wired to give you the bridge/neck combo, but you'll lose something else. There are seven possible combinations of three pickups, assuming you don't do the coil cuts or phase reversals or series/parallel torture, but there are only 5 positions, so you gotta figure out which ones are most important.

Yeah, I have become a Wilde zealot :).  I have L-500's on my two main guitars.  This'll be my first one with L-45's, but I trust Bill Lawrence and I've seen the videos, too.  If I were a single coil purist (I am not) I would get the new microcoils.  I've always played humbuckers and only owned one single coil guitar (G&L S-500 and I still regret selling it) which I never played live or recorded with.

As for the bridge, I hate to waste the graphtech saddles I have :).  I like em, plus I think they will even out the response of the guitar.  The guitar will have plenty of sparkle with the pickups and maple neck and fretboard.  I could always sell the saddles I guess.

As for the switch, even though the L-45's are dual coil, they are only 2 conductor.  The only combos of the 7 that I'll be missing out on are middle only and all three together.  I don't care about those combos.
