Jam #8...... Prog Reggae in the Key of A Minor.

The Track goes 2x through, but each soloist only gets 32 bars (1:06) to lay down a solo.

Now don't run away so quickly. A ton of styles work on this track: Blues, Metal, Rock, Jazz etc.

I thought it would be cool to get a different style to solo over.

Deadline is Monday Nov. 15th

If anyone wants the chords, here they are. The A minor & Pentatonic Minor work really well over the changes.

Am7 / Em7 / Dm7 / Em7
Am7 / Em7 / Dm7 / Dm7
Am7 / Em7 / Dm7 / Em7
Am7 / Em7 / Dm7 / Dm7

F7 / E7 / Am7 / Am7
F7 / E7 / Am7 / Am7
F7 / E7 / Am7 Abm7 / Gm7 C9
F9 / F9 / E7 F7 E7......

This sounds like fun, can't wait to hear the track when I get home...! What's the bpm?

Btw I'm calling dibs on the next Jam, it was easier than I thought to put something together.

Well here is mine.
Quick gear rundown. It's my Strat (only electric I have. It's the one in the picture. It's a bit of an unusual colour, metallic coral orange apparantly, and it's got the DG-20 EMG pickup set in it. I loves it). Played into the GNX4 on a sorta spanky cleanish setting. As for playing style, it's fingers this time. Would have been a bit more Jeff Beck but the trem is screwed flat down on the wood at the moment and can't be bothered with the faff of floating it.  :laughing7:
I really love this backing track too, I've tried to keep some space in the solo to let it breathe.  :icon_thumright:

One thing I noticed is that the backing track is mono. Is there any chance of a stereo one as there is so much lush space in it that stereo would sound awesome imo.

Good old 120 BPM.

Looking forward to your backing track.  :icon_thumright:

I'm working on the mix for this again... I just did my solo, but I don't have it ready to put up yet. I'm going to put Panthur's before mine.

I'm considering putting some tape delay on the backing track - makes it sound more like a reggae dub thing :laughing7:

btw - I noticed that if you hit a G# in there during the second half (making A Harmonic Minor) it can sound nice because of the switch to and E major chord in there...

after listening to Panthur's solo I think I'll do two mixes - one dry and one tripped out dub style hahaha. I just love that WatKat tape delay plugin that Superlizard found. It's s000000 trippy maaaan  :laughing7:

I'm also planning a backing track  - but my idea is to make a very simple one - just bass and drums and no chords. My idea is to have everyone play in a different mode, as an experiment. Just to see what it turns out like.

This one I think is a very good one, but more challenging. Still ten days left for this jam, but it seems like we won't get a lot of people trying it out this time. I hope I'm wrong.

I did a second solo for this one. I hope no one minds. I think if people want to do more than one or an extended solo, they should go for it.

I'm looking forward to hearing what Doughboy does with this since it's his track.

Come on people give it a try, it's fun and it can help your playing. :icon_thumright:

What I normally do is loop the track & play over it for a while to get comfortable & get some ideas. Then I let the tape roll & try to incorporate some of the ideas with some improvised passages to make it flow nicely. I don't think I'll even attempt to record anything until mid this week. I may even break out the old acoustic & try that out...or maybe not!!!!!

Too much stuff going on this past week, and right now I'm not even in the right country :)

But I do have some ideas for this jam already, will get on it asap.

I am still having recording troubles
First try had one of the Boxers snoring during
Second had my wife walk in on me
third sounded ok
I got it on to the laptop and accidently laid it on top of the backing track, then I went to redo it and erased the original. I will try again this afternoon as I have a great chicken pick going on for that.

You've got to try Amplitube ot Guitar Rig. They sound really good & you can go direct in, so no external noise problems ever.

What
300 clams for a program so I do not have to record through a mike? Are you $^@*&$# serious?

I got my amplitube for free when I bought Guitar Tracks Pro for $30.

Doughboy, this is a cool backing for clean or dirty... so, taking up Gary's offer of more that one solo, I did both.
Clean is My W Soloist Bareknuckle Painkiller bridge pu (yes, a high output 'metal' pickup) into RP500 Roland Jazz amp model
Dirty is my scratchbuilt hollow padauk body, SD PRails bridge, into RP500 Orange amp model
As before, straight into PC soundcard.
