Warmoth Jam #5

I'm in and I have a first version of the solo down. Not quite there yet. I won't listen to any of the solos until it's all done and mixed.

Still learning this lead guitar thing. Glad to have some guinea pigs!

Hey by the way, I thought it might be fun for us gear nerds to list the gear we used for these things. I played my Hagström Swede through a Native Instruments Audio Kontrol interface into Guitar Rig 4 Pro. The sound is based on the "Jeff at Ronnie's" preset which is basically Tube Screamer into JCM800 with some very light reverb at the end. I modified EQ and gain and added the Space Echo. Still a bit trebly but it works!

did you record two parts and combine them with one much lower? that's what it sounds like. It sounds cool  :icon_thumright:

I'm liking this one more and more - I wish more people would get in on it.

Sweet - I'm liking how this is sounding so far :icon_thumright:

just remembered that I never put up my solo ???

my gear used is the same as always on these jams - the Warmoth Goldtop - this time on the bridge pickup. I'm using  my Fender Cyber Deluxe amp on the setting that is there when you turn it on. It's called Arena Rock hehehe. It's supposed to be a modern marhsall-ish kind of sound with lots of "arena" reverb and analog delay with some modulation. It sounds cool for leads if you like that sort of sound. It's got a lot of compression too so it really cuts through in the mix (I have to lower it a lot in comparison). I just run a stereo output from the amp to the computer line input. Not the best way, but it still sounds OK.

Thanks! Yep that's what I did. I was so-so happy with my first take so I did another which worked better. I like the two-separate-solos-at-once trick (first time I really noticed it was on the song "Firepower" by Sylvian/Fripp). On another piece I've separated them with panning, here with levels. The quiet part needed something extra so I gave it a slow autopan. I think it works :)

yeah it works - fits in well with the rest of the track too.

are we going to get any more recordings before Monday? I hope so.

I guess only 5 guys this time. I'll have a mix up a bit later. I'll take some more if anyone wants to - but today was the last day.

Here's my mix:

the order:

Panthur, GoDrex, kboman, Doughboy, djf67

I really liked this one - I wish we could have gotten some more players involved.

That was great! A triumph for mainly non-blues soloing, wonderful!
I liked them all really but the two last ones were the icing on the cake for me, probably.

You guys are great  :hello2:

Edit: btw I linked to the last two jams from my "blog" kbospeak.

Great solos from everyone.

Non-Blues soloing definitely described this one perfectly.  :laughing7:

Can't wait for Jam #6.

Anyone up for doing the backing track? If not, I'll be happy to do it. Perhaps an all out 80s metal one this time around?  :party07:

I think 'eclectic' is the word for that one. Very different approaches, presumably because the backing was so open.

sorry I wasn't able to get in on this one. I'm temporarily living in some apartments, and don't have enough room to set my gear up. also, I'm super busy with school. give me a little bit, and I'll be back. this backing track sounded fun, though. I would have solo'd the bridge pickup and got a bit more of a honky midrange tone as a bit of a tribute to Jaco's passing 23 years ago, today.
