This isn't worth it. - UPDATE

So... where do the donations go?

What did they get used for you mean? UW knocked $109.xx after Paypal fees off the cost of the body, plus family took off about $100 and I spread the last $80 over a few credit cards.

so now that it's officially (almost) a work in progress thread... what color pickguard?  :icon_biggrin:

Tortoise! Black and chrome hardware as its going to be mix-and-matched.. I got a cheapo chrome 5-hole bridge since the Lava P body was routed for a Badass III and that's the bridge I bought. Give it a while and I'll try to find a chrome Badass II, but for now I'm going $12.95 bent steel.

Duncan QP pickup, 280k vol pot + 250k tone, .47 cap. Yes, I stole Tonar's electronics setup.

I think that'll look amazing with a rosewood neck.

I've been through a similar situation, so I know how awful it feels. I'm just glad we can help you avoid the worst possible outcome.

Thank you whitebison and a few mystery contributors! Maybe I'm not going to have much black hardware after all.

:eek:ccasion14:

And yes, to all involved - There Will Be Photos. Body should be here this coming week, after that I'm heading to Arkansas on the 13th to use my grandfather's shop for the drilling and soldering. I'll post in-progress pics too, but they might be from a cell phone.

Its swamp ash by the way, and the original was maple. So in six or eighteen months or whatever when (/ if) I get my lava bass back, we can do an interesting A/B to see how much body wood really affects tone.

Don't know if it's been mentioned in the thread, but Sims (the American one, not the ones in the UK) has a terrible reputation and has apparently done this to a lot of people.

When I first read about all this, I was totally dumbfounded that the guys who did Steve Vai's and Billy Sheehan's LED work could be ripping people off, but then I found out there are two different Sims Customs...
I have to wonder whether the bad reputation of the Sims that scammed Knucklehead might negatively affect business for the Sims that does the LED work?

I actually came across a thread at one point where the British Sims shop was basically making an announcement to everyone that they are not associated with Patrick Sims.  They said that they had received some strongly worded emails from people making complaints about stuff the other shop was doing.

I think I would be tempted to change the name of my business, should I find myself in such a position.
OTOH, it would drive me to an insane rage to have to change the name of my business because of the actions of some worthless person that had soured the name for reasons unrelated to my business. (Where's the "insane rage" emoticon?)

BTW, somewhat related story.
A friend of mine owns a recording studio, and a few years ago, he was contacted by another studio in Memphis TN or something who had the same name.
He has owned the studio under the name since 1989, but apparently this other studio had had the name since 1986, IIRC.
Their lawyers came after him and told him to change the name, so he changed it for a little while.
I asked him a few months later what was going on when his website had reverted back to the original name, and he told me that the whole thing turned out to be some sort of scam.
There was no studio in Memphis with the name, and he found it fishy all along that it would take them nearly 20 years to come after him.

Feel free to copy and paste to your photobucket and use as needed (what *I* do - as a picture is sometimes worth a thousand words).

I'm headed for SoCal eventually to go to MI

Man, I think I'll be going there too maybe next year :)

I live in Quebec so the distance is still making me wondering...

Nice choice. I wasn't crazy about that blue until you put the tortoise pick guard on it;  what a difference.  It looked too easter eggish with the white pickguard.  Looking forward to watching this come together.

I just got off the phone with Slingbass, looks like he might be pitching in some chrome and helping me wire the thing up, too, so I'll have a seasoned builder's experience going into it.

This is turning into quite the community project. You guys  :headbang1:!
