This isn't worth it. - UPDATE

+1 to the cheap-o on craigslist. get a squier, put that nice rosewood neck on it, you seem like a gear-head so i wouldn't doubt that you might have a nice set up pickups sitting around, and then go to town on it! sure, it won't be that badass lava p-bass, but it'll be something for a while. the starter squier p-basses go for REALLY cheap. i know because i've done some shopping around. i have a p-bass neck that would love to find itself a body sometime soon.

I don't have any for sale right now, but I did just build one out of a $40 Squier body and a W neck for a friend.  If you get the older (early 90s) Affinity Squiers, the pickups aren't awful.  We went back and forth with American Fender  and a QP Duncan and ended up leaving the stock one in there.  Keep an eye out on Craigslist, I'm telling you.  I have two half-moth basses, one with an American P bass body and one with a Squier one (both black), and they're both tonally solid and I honestly don't see a lack of craftmanship in the cheaper one.

Knucklehead fund anyone?  Maybe we could scrap together enough scratch to acquire a screaming deal for our down and out buddy.  I'm in for a modest bit if someone could spearhead the collection; it probably won't have a $700 paint job though.   :hello2:
If I get any small jobs, I might contribute some.

Put me down for $20.  Who wants to match it?

I'm really honored that you guys are helping.. I'm seriously getting warm fuzzies here. Thank you. I'd been panicking as I've already missed summer classes enrollment so this thing is pushing back my school start date as I'd been trying to not go out and buy something new since I'm pretty financially squished right now.

Skipping the blubbering, thank you for your support.

Damnit, that Sims-thread pissed me off. Nobody's living near him?
Let me help a fellow bass brother out. I'm down for (a modest) $10,-. Let me know where to paypal it to.

I'm easy -> knucklehead_G@yahoo.com

I'd like to ask all of you to not try and harass Sims please, ORC and I have enough to deal with without him seeing a trend in crank calls and coming to the UW boards. I'm trying - as I'm sure ORC is - to deal with this professionally, as that is going to be our best chance of keeping this clean.

Donations received from tubby, baskruit, and Schlieren! Watching eBay closely trying to snipe a body, there are a few Squier and some homebrews on there right now in the right price range. Squier neck pockets work with Warmoth necks, right? I know the pickguard probably won't fit but most of the ones I'm looking at come with pickguards.

What's up with this route? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150427740571&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I've found a few like that, will a P bass pickguard cover that huge hole?

Hope it helps, buddy.  I've been down in the financial dumps before, it sucks.  Sims guy always bothered me, didn't know why, but I hope all is worked out in the end.  Don't give up on the Warmoth, though, you'll be glad you didn't.

Two more donations - Greg and John - no usernames? Thank whomever you are!

At the moment I could almost get a whole brand new Squier, this should be plenty for a body, especially if I get one of these off eBay.

Anything in particular I should look for? I assume I'll be punching some new holes in it so the Badass III will fit and my PG isn't likely go to on it a MIC / MIJ Squier, but anything else? I've got about eight bodies / full Squiers on watch right now.

I'm up for it. Hate to see someone suffer for lack of an instrument when there are so many orphans out there, or dump a premium neck at a loss. If nothing else, we could pony up a couple bucks apiece for an Asian model that would be at least as good as a Fender. One of these, for instance, (see here http://www.rondomusic.com/spj62vwh.html)

is only $119 + shipping. They're surprisingly decent parts, good for more than just in a pinch. Alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, etc. I'll donate $20 to start it off, which means we only need 4 more people to do $20, or 8 to do $10. It's something to play that isn't a piece of crap (pay no attention to the price). When he's done with it, he can pay it forward. Surely he'll meet somebody someday who needs a bass, and he can pass it along for good karma. If we get enough donors, we can even put it in a hardshell case for another $50. What's $20? A case of beer? If we got together to jam, we'd spend more than that on beer <grin>

I've got a hardshell, strings, everything but a body. And plus you $20 puts me at $130, so I'm going to see what MF's outlet has for grabs and maybe I can have a true build thread up within a week. A vintage vibe P body in soni blue would be sweet so hopefully they have a broken one in.

Are you guys serious? Your helping knuckleboy buy a cheap body while he waits for another?

If he's got a problem waiting for custom parts, he should be ordering from the showcase, I don't feel sorry for him a bit.  I've been unemployed for 9 months, i'd wait as long as it takes to get a special part from W.

I'll bet it shows up and looks great, I have no sympathy for any of you " Employed" people that bitch about anything.    I work in construction, and times are tough, so STFU.  I mean this in a good way

I don't remember stepping on your toes, Alfgang, so I'm not sure why you're mad. And this isn't like I'm waiting on Warmoth to make my body, the situation is very different (see this thread).

Also I'd like to point out two other things,
1. This isn't the first time this community has rallied to help someone
2. I didn't ask for donations

Does SX use the same neck pocket as Fender? If so, that's pretty cool.

I love that idea.

I'm up for the idea. SX makes pretty solid instruments, nothing a good setup can't fix.

Before I knew the whole story my thoughts were similar to yours but in the end it all comes down to the fact that not everybody has the same level of customer service as W does. Please leave the (your) economic crisis out of this, thanks.

One thing more about getting a cheap body:

Before you screw your precious neck to the body, check the thickness of this body. For instance my Squier body is 42mm instead of 45mm (1 3/4'') and from what I've heard the Affinity series are even slimmer. Be sure that you won't drive the screws through the fretboard.

You do realize that it isn't Warmoth he's having an issue with right?  He was given a time estimate, told his information and requests were lost, seen the time estimate come and go, and now the very real possibility that it might be gone for good.

I'm sorry you're unemployed, but that doesn't make it necessary to give people s*** for something like this because they're working and you aren't.  I know it's frustrating but lighten up man.
