I say whatever floats your boat WRT to guitar design. Mix and match, have fun, create something unique and/or fits your desires/needs.
Fer instance a certain double F hole, double bound, no body contours, no pickguard, strat comes to mind . . . and look how nice that came out.

The main reason to use a Soloist body design is to get better upper fret access coupled with the comfort and balance of a Strat. So, if one can't afford the carved top a Soloist normally has (understandable, since judging by the price Warmoth charges for that option they must only hire high-profile doctors with scalpels and 1200 grit sandpaper to shape them), then a flat top is the way to go and still get the same performance. Flat tops traditionally have pickguards, so I don't think it's such a sin.

I think pickguards for soloist bodies would be cool. Even for just decorative purposes they are useful for unifying a design if you match it with other plastic parts or knobs. Having it contrast from the body color looks nice too.
I don't like the strat shape though. I think something closer to the cabronita pickguard shape would look good.

Soloist is very close to the strat shape, it looks natural to me.
Suhr has the standard model, a variation of the strat/soloist. They offer it top & rear routed.

Others have done it since the 80's, nothing new. Even the strat shape is not the same since the 50's, Fender has changed it slightly a few times over the years.

Why not? But then again, I do have a soft spot for pickguards. And solid colours. So maybe you don't want to listen to me.

The Zion radicaster has a similar pickguard (goes a bit closer to the edge than the strat does). Staring at it some more, and trying to enumerate just what it is I like I realized....
It's the single coils! especially the bridge. Rear routed bridge single looks absolutely stupid. It's passable on SSH, but ...SSS needs a pickguard, period.

Soloist with reverse pointy headstock, Gretsch thumb inlays, Bigsby, TV Jones p'ups.....mmmm.
