Aloha y'all,

This is my first build out here on the Big Island, Hawaii.  This is an attempt to capture some of the resonance of my Eric Johnson Strat with a 3.9lb. alder body and quartersawn maple/Braz. Rswd neck. The bridge is from Callaham, and pickups are Duncan Antiquity II's....aiming for that sproingy early sixties twang neighborhood.

The only unusual aspect of this build would possibly be the finish...I painted it with a custom mix of Old Fashioned Milk Paint like they use on old shaker furniture and hand rubbed beeswax polish for a little glow.  I guess it looks a little like a fresh bar of Zest in person.

Am about to finish the neck with Danish Oil unless somebody starts screaming "FIRE" after I post this.

I play a lot of surf music and write my own strange instrumentals....lemme know what you think?

Some people here know I can't stand Fenders, but this I like. Nice job Sir!

Thanks a lot folks!  I'm astounded by the quality builds going off around here...I kinda chose the path of least resistance because I didn't trust myself with an actual finish.  It's a bit Hollywood too because the back has a few spots where I sanded thru to white primer...after @25 coats I threw in the towel :binkybaby:

LOL Pablo...it bothers me too...kinda resembles me caught with my shorts down at the beach...blinding!!!  Not sure what to do about it yet.

Your gentleness has emboldened me to expose the other turkey in my barn...

Looks great! I really like the aged plastic on the P/U covers and the knobs. Where did you score them?

I totally dig the color!  Good job and welcome!

@Tonar...the pickups are the Surfer Duncan Antiquities II pickups...they are aged by Seymour Duncan and come that way...I think the knobs were just regular creme knobs...been awhile since I bought some of this stuff....anyone here used these pickups?  They seem to get favorable feedback.

:icon_thumright: That's the PERFECT color blue for strats. Let us know what you think of the antiquities.

Got her stringed up and intonated last night....couldn't believe that musical sounds were actually emenating from the Super Reverb :toothy10:
The bridge pickup is just what I was looking for...Twangy Surf City!  I'll hold off judgement on the middle and neck until I figure out what I did wrong under the pickguard and why it makes more noise when I turn the volume down than when it's cranked :laughing7:...might as well give my 3 year old the soldering iron.

First experience with Stainless Steel frets...I think it'll be nice for surf, the notes seem to dart right out of the neck. but I have a feeling I'll prefer the nickel from now on for warmth.  This neck joint is tighter than John Holmes condoms...sustain..........  :occasion14:
