as some of you may know, David Lee Roth is back in Van Halen AND they have a new album coming out 2/7/12!!! it's going to be called "A Different Kind of Truth". they played a show at the Cafe Wha? in NYC last night, and to any naysayers about the "new" Van Halen...they're sounding tight as ever! Wolfie learned how to play bass, too!!!

She's The Woman (old demo tune)

their new single "Tattoo" will be released next tuesday (1/10/12), and they have released the details of their 2012 tour: http://www.van-halen.com/tour.html

tickets will go on sale next tuesday when the new single is released. IS ANYONE AS EXCITED ABOUT THIS AS I AM!?!??!?!?!

I saw another ad/video saying that the original lineup was doing this, which is un-true.

Michael Anthony has been ousted and Wolfie is in, which is not the original lineup.
It may not be VH without either of the namesake brothers, but Michael Anthony is part of that legacy too, and I'm not too fond of how he's been treated in all of this, just because him and Hagar have remained friendly.

yea, it isn't the original line up.....but who goes to a Van Halen show to see Michael Anthony?.....personally, I think Wolfie is sounding like a better bass player, anyway. I like his tone more, too.

The band is a carnival act now.  If that's your thing, peeps, go get you some.  I expected to be impressed by the kid's bass playing and wasn't.  I'm sure it's a pretty damn cool thing to be doing from his perspective though.  Regarding MA, VH never would have had the commercial success that they did without his vocals, and I expect they'll be using them on tour, still, lol.

I keep trying to be excited about this (since someone makes a post about it on some board I'm on every few days for a month or so), but I can't get past how EVH hasn't done anything new or interesting in 25 years or so.  Also, he has little man's syndrome and is generally lame to hear speak, haha.  One of my male gay friends said about him, "he has more drama than a bar full of us."

edit:  Sorry if that comes across as overly negative, I have many good friends who are STOKED about this.  If you're excited, GET YOUR VH ON.  Here's an article about that intimate show, which contains the demo from 1976 of VH playing "She's the Woman."  With the same bass part...

It is nice to hear Wolfie improving. I hope he continues to improve and is given other opportunities.  (Granted, that is based solely on one song.)  Otherwise, meh...

IMO, they are headed to the cutout bin.  If I want to see that kind of act, I'll go to something like a Styx/REO Speedwagon double bill.....

how were you not impressed by the bass playing in that video?.....you realize not everyone is a Billy Sheehan, right? Wolfie was holding a really tight groove with Alex and there was a some flourishes being thrown in that aren't the easiest things to do. and man, there's some haters on this board! freaking Van Halen is back with David Lee Roth and a clean EVH!

It has always been hard to take Micheal Anthony seriously.  I saw VH back in the day (1983), MA's solo included hanging his bass from a mic stand and swinging it so that the strings made contact with the stand and made a buzz-killing sound as he walked off stage. The sound guy let this happen for an annoyingly long period of time.

David Lee Roth's solo had him doing a sword excercise.  Isn't he the SINGER.  His solo should be SINGING.

Eddies solo was AWESOME.

I expected him to have grown more into his own, I suppose.  Obviously, we're only given the one song so far to sample, and it's a 35 year old song, so it's difficult to say if he can speak with his own voice.  I didn't say it was bad, just that I wasn't impressed.  It's not that exciting to me to see aging rockers not doing anything new, I suppose.  Like I said, a circus show... and I've been known to enjoy a circus myself, so I'm not talking down especially.

I read somewhere that the kid was miming to Michael Anthony's vocal tracks when it came to singing. Michael Anthony's vocals are a significant part of the whole. without anyone of the right ingredients its not the same Van Halen. I'm looking forward to seeing where they will take the music but I'm not getting my hopes up. Not a fan of ed's new sound at all.

The last tour had Wolfie and I thought he nailed MA's vocals.

Will probably buy the album, won't see them live though.

Word is that it was MA's vocals with the kid miming.

Well the thing is, it won't be "the same" as it was in their old days. People just have to accept that. They think cause DLR is back in the band, it will be VHI all over again. Truth is, they're all different people now, and their style has probably changed a lot, along with the new bass player. I know this, and I'm excited about this. I can't wait to hear the new material. It's like when Mr. Big released their new album. Such good music.

Exactly, and before you know it, Eddie and Dave will be at each others throats... And after meeting Ed and seeing how much of a pryk he is, I could care less...

And they screwed  Michael even more than they did Sammy, but they are both in a way better band than the current Vh could ever be...IMO

I saw a commercial today saying VH will be playing Indianapolis next month.  I kinda want to go, even if the commercial featured an old music video implying it would be original lineup.

VH is a parody of themselves.

Diamond Dave would be more at home as a Vegas lounge act backing up none other than Wayne Newton.

Then there's Eddie.  Yeah, he's great.  He's also his own brand; EVH this, EVH that.  Can anyone say, "Gene Simmons Jr.?"

Little Wolfie.  Really?  Nothin' like bringing "Junior" into the family business, right?

And then there are all the excited VH fans.  Hey, I'd be excited too except I'm about 95% convinced those unannounced tour dates aren't EVER going to make it into fruition.  Eddie will start acting like a diva (again) before any tour takes off and it'll be another "tour that never happened."  Frankly, I'm surprised they actually made it to the stage for the last show.  The stage isn't big enough for the two egos of Diamond Dave and Eddie.

What about Michael Anthony?  No, nobody goes to see Mike, but I don't hold much interest in seeing the Heavy Metal version of "Swiss Family Robinson" with the outsider.

to me, it really looks they are having fun...

I'm sure they're having a grand old time and they'll be having an even grander time charging their fans out the ass for tickets once this tour starts!

I'd really like to see the original lineup.  I think they'd probably still put on a good show.

I just heard a clip of their new song, "Tattoo.". I sure hope they can do better than that because it SUCKED.
