Les Paul from scratch

I think this headstock needs a logo so I cut out an M of mother of pearl in the shape of Gibson logo (my family name is Miquel)

Frets are beveled to 35º. To do this I've made myself a jig attatching a file to slot made in a piece of african mahogany; it works great and only cost 5€ instead the 65.5$ of the Sewmac jig. The fretboard is masked to start recrowning the frets (after leveling), dressing the ends and polishing

Aplying the grain filler. This time I've used Timbermate filler, tinted in black to rise the african mahogany grain. This stuff works great because you mix it with warm water and you can prepare it with the texture that you want, the only thing is that I tinted it in black and when it dries it becomes gray!!! I must add more black dye the next time. But the grain is filled in almost black colour so its OK

It's tough to tell by the picture, but I think I might give that neck another coat or two of filler. Looks good, in any event. Keep up the good work, and be sure to show us how it's going!

Mahogany is a real pain in the shorts to get level. I have a body here that fought me like a dog to straighten up and fly right, and Tonar has similar horror stories. It'll get there, but you have to take some steps more than once so it's no fun. On the plus side, it's Mahogany. Nice wood. Worth the effort.

Looking good ....
Great on going work ramonet  :icon_thumright:

Pic's just a little large thou  :toothy11:
All thou I can see every grain in the wood and every spec of dust on the floor  :icon_biggrin:

Alittle progress this weekend: I've made the cover plate for the switch. I've noticed that this plate can only be place in one position in the body because the holes for the screws so I made two guide dots, one in the plate and one in the body.

You could have just wrote on the inside of the cover with a Sharpie "^^ This End Up ^^".  :toothy11:

That is gonna look really nice, great job! What will the final color be? I might have just missed it, but I am a picture oriented person  :laughing7:
