Les Paul from scratch

The hand lettering says "Fet a ma a BCN 2012 #9", this means (in Catalan, my mother's language) "Hand Made in Barcelona 2012" and this is the 9th guitar I've ever build. I think this it's a nice personal touch

The neck colour is the african mahogany (a pinkish version of normal mahogany) grainfilled in black and stained in amber. I think that the combination gives as a result a brown goldish colour that resembles the Honduras mahogany with a clear coat. It comes out really good and the diference in colour with the sapelly disapears (or almost)

The clear coating it's nearly done. Tomorrow I'm going to start the staging set up for Bruce Springsteen here in Barcelona (Spain), a one week job (including set up + 2 gigs + tear down) ans the guitar remains curing the clear before wet sand and buff. Do you think it's enought a whole week waiting before the wet sand? How much I must wait between the wet sand and the buffing?. After this only remains the assembling; it's nearly done.
I'm thinking about the next project: a hollow version of Patrick Eggle's New York model in neck-through construction, maybe with mini-hb

You don't need to wait between wet sanding and buffing at all, but you do need to wait before you start that whole process. None of that will turn out right if the finish isn't hardened enough, which typically takes at least two weeks or better.

I think that neck finish came out great and I like your 'mark' on the back of the headstock. Very classy and a great custom touch.

Thanks for detailing all this work for your project. This is amazingly cool. Wish I had all those tools!  :icon_thumright:

dude, whatcha talkin 'bout?! that top is gorgeous! superclassy, nice flame but not too whorehouse-ey. it's supernice. you can build me one, hahaha

When I glued the peghead faceplate I've sanded it flush with the surface where the fingerboard it's going to be glued so there's no "channel" where to insert the nut so it can slip away. I've decided to put a rounded piece of rosewood a little darker than the one used on the faceplate. This way I think the transition from the ebony of the fretboard and the rosewood of the peghead it's great. Pic of the process

The rosewood "stop piece" superglued in place. It was necessary remove the clear to ensure a good union. To clear this piece I've sprayed the clear from the can inside a plastic cup and applied with a small brush

The bone fits Ok in the channel so I can start making the nut. As the radius od the fingerboard is 12" I've used a fingerboard sanding block with sandpaper sticked go give the bone the same radius. To be sure that the raius it's Ok I've marked the top of the bone with a pencis; when all the marks are gone it's time to stop sanding. I've decided to finish the nut with the strings on; this way I think I can adjust it the best way. For the moment it's too tall but I can fine adjust it sanding the bottom of it against a sandpaper sticked to a flat surface
