I'm just gonna do it - Purple Strat update

I think I'm just gonna order my neck without any special contour.  I can try a Clapton or Wolfgang contour on a future guitar.  I was playing my LP today, and I like the standard thin neck on it fine, it's not like I'm dissatisfied or anything.  It fits my hand, plain and simple.  I plan on building lots of Warmoths within my lifetime, and I'm sure I'll have the chance to try something new later.  For the Strat, I'll just get a thin.

So here's my plan:

Strat Conversion Scale
raw Canary/Canary
1 5/8" Earvana White Corian nut
Stainless Steel 6105 frets
Gotoh tuners
Abalone face dots

Cool!  You'll love the canary.

One suggestion - go with black dots for the position markers.  on a dark stage you'll never see those Abalone dots.

I want to get Abalone on the front with black side dots actually... do you think they'll do that?

Probably. I just ask that you don't submit your Strat to Guitar of the Month at the same time I put in my P bass.

Wait, abalone dots come with black or white pvc side dots anyways.  Silly me!
On the canary I'd go with no face dots. It's way better looking without them.....IMHO :dontknow:

That's going to be one sweet neck.  You're going to love the feel of Canary.

I'd say go with black face dots to match the black side dots.

You have a plan......and it's a good plan (IMO) - looking forward to it seeing it......get going

I'm just not a huge fan of black pvc face dots.  I'm going to have a beautiful wood neck, I'd rather have a natural looking material on the fretboard than black plastic.  There's just something I don't like about plain black plastic.  No offense if you like them, they're just not attractive to me.  I don't mind having pvc side dots because they're very smalI and hardly anyone ever even notices them. I do wish I could get a dark wood inlayed for the dots instead of abalone, but alas, it is not available.

definitely agree! i've had a few guitars without inlays. never noticed a difference. i use the side dots only.

You are going to LOVE that canary...
I got my firebird neck with no face markers and I really like the looks.  However, I have not played it yet, so I can't speak to the ease of getting used to no dots.
Can't wait to see more pics as she develops.

It's really just about getting your mind to realize you follow the side dots and never look at the face dots while playing anyway.  :icon_thumright:

True, I figured that out in about an hour of playing without any... :headbang:

I don't know what kind of eyes you guys have, but I've gotten lost with face dots on rosewood boards!

Course, the light show was a bit , er, extreme at that show...

Muscle memory.  :icon_thumright:

Try playing and practicing without looking down at the neck. Yeah, you'll FUBAR it badly at first, but then your mind and your hands will sync up and it will become very easy to get used to. Now I'm not saying I don't have to look down at times, LOL, but the lack of face dots doesn't bother me one bit. The side dots are the only reference I use now.
