I Have This Body... Bobber Build Thread

Those car colors look so good on guitars with that retro futuristic look.  I wouldn’t do it on an lip but on that wow!

Thanks, that color does work on it. It's even better in person, as can be expected. Hopefully I can get some photos when it's done that show the colors correctly.

So pretty!
Thank you.

Very nice...but inquiring minds need to see the insides also...
Thanks. Here's what it looked like when I did the wiring.

Here's the wiring diagram I used with a couple simple differences. I put a switch to ground the soldered pairs for a coil split on each of the pickups. You can see those next to the pickup selector on the PG. I used grounding lugs instead of soldering to the backs of the pots. There's also a ground wire coming up from the bridge pickup to ground the bridge but I did that with copper tape instead.

That looks incredible! The warhead headstock fits the body shape really well. As well as the switching on the lower horn.

That looks awesome, Robert.
What are those things next to the toggle switch? Looks like LED’s.
I can’t see them on the schematic.

Its mentioned in the post above. They are not on the schematic but are additional switches to split the pickups.

Thanks, guys.

Axkoa, the headstock isn't a Warhead, but it's similar.

These switches in black are what I used for the coil splits. They aren't on the wiring diagram, they just ground the soldered pairs on the pickups. Here's a better look at them

Very nice. I like!
I missed the mention earlier about you getting coil switching for this wiring. And since these must be push-buttons (I've never seen this type before) you have to forgive me for thinking they looked like LED's. :laughing7:

No problem, they're small and do look like LEDs. They're easily ruined with a soldering iron, too. I trashed two of them with my new American Beauty until I figured out to use a quick touch with just the corner of the tip. :laughing11:

Stealth switches against a blackguard they would almost not be visible.

Robert, I’m curious .... had you thought about the hunbuckers in parallel instead of splitting them?

Didn't occur to me. Maybe on a future build I'll give that a try.

The setup is about done. I have the action a bit high at the nut but I'll revisit that. Here's a quick photo for the record. Poor late afternoon light doesn't do the colors justice. I'll have better photos when I can get them.

Beautiful! I really like that color!

Apropos of nothing - I'm certainly no pro photographer, but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to use such busy backgrounds on shots where you'd like to examine the subject  :icon_biggrin:

Thanks, Magnus. That shape is really interesting because it balances nicely in spite of the light butt and the lopped off top horn.

Yes, I like that color a lot. It's really good with the cream PG which looks a bit white in that light.

You're absolutely right about the background. I wanted a photo and that was the only place where light wasn't a mixture of direct sun and shadows, which really looked bad. The best is that indirect flat light you get with an overcast morning. When we get one of those I'll head on down to the feed store or something. Photoshop could have maybe saved that photo but it's not a very good one anyway so I just posted it as is.

It's funny - many think that a direct sunny day is what you want so you get the brightest and most intense light, but you're right. A nice overcast is best with its all-encompassing and diffuse neutral light. Of course, most modern cameras/lenses, even the lowliest of phone cams, are much better these days than they used to be. Back in the days of slow lenses, etc. you practically wanted klieg lights on your subject or you had to use use sluggish shutters, etc. that just begged for poor results.
