I Have This Body... Bobber Build Thread

Of course, most modern cameras/lenses, even the lowliest of phone cams, are much better these days than they used to be.
LOL, that must not include mine.  :laughing11:

I have a poor sense of time these days, but it doesn't seem like it was that long ago where you could tell a phone camera shot from a mile away. Now, the camera mfrs are crying in their beers because phone cams are so good there's little motivation to buy something dedicated.

I will say, mine is a bit better for taking photos of guitars than my Nikkon in staged photos under flat light but only just. For indoor room shots and outdoor scenic shots, the Nikkon is superior.

I got a little better photo of it today. There was some cloud cover and the light was almost perfect so I ran down to the feed store. It came out pretty good. I will try for some more photos another day but this is decent.

So it's purty and all, but Robert, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO PLAY?  That nifty shape could be either a joy or an unexpected source of discomfort, and I'm curious to hear your views.

It's surprisingly similar to the Telerauder, which the body was before I waved the bandsaw at it. It's a little lighter in weight and feels smaller although the areas you actually touch are unchanged. It has a little more heft at the neck but the balance is still great. The butt strap button location puts the strap behind the body so it hangs slightly straighter not not by very much. I put a healthy belly contour on it so that's minimal. All-in-all, it's comfortable. I like it.

Yo that thing looks Iike mana from heaven. Musiclander, more like Music Rocket about to blast off! #escape-velocity

Thanks, Rob. It was inspired by the Musiclander/Swinger but it's a tad wider and maybe a bit more offset. To counter the weight issue, it's only 1-5/8" thick (41-42 mm for those who think that way). I'm pleased with it.

Greg saves the day!

In the process of intonating, I put blue tape on the body so I wouldn't scratch or otherwise trash it when making adjustments. So when I pulled the tape off after a couple of days, you could see where that tape was. It left a serious rough area with the grain of the masking tape on it.

The net result is I got to run over to Modesto today and spend a few hours with Greg while he polished out my screw-up. It now is smooth and glossy again. Greg sure knows his stuff. He has a cool dog with no legs, too. Well, the legs are there but it has LONG fur that brushes the floor.

While there, I got to see ragamuffin's burgandy mist body in proscess. Oh, boy, you're in for a pleasant surprise. That thing is looking great! I have a new love of burgundy mist. I repeat, Greg sure knows his stuff.

Photos? imgur won't let me access my photos. I don't know if they're pulling a screw-you the way photobucket did or what but right now I can't access my photo albums. I have no idea how to put photos in other than to link to them at the end of the post so the first one is the goobered area and the second is the same area after Greg worked his magic on it.

More than once I’ve experienced the destructive power of low-tack painters tape. I’m glad everything buffed out, it looks great! And what an awesome opportunity to hang out with a fellow forumite  :icon_thumright:

You can tape up poly finished parts and leave it on until the rapture, and it'll be fine. Lacquer? Not so much. Masking tape adhesive still has traces of solvent in it (acetone, toluene, etc.) and given a few days, it'll start to work on the finish. Short periods are ok, like a few hours, but not days.

I'm wiser, now. But, as you pointed out what a great opportunity to hang out with Greg. I got to look at his own guitars, all of which are spectacular examples. His bursts are second to none and his Texas Tea finish is to die for. They sound damn good, too.

Yeah, I certainly found that out. Fortunately it was not too bad although it sure looked it initially. It did lead to my having a super day with an expert. I learned a lot about lacquer finishes and can really appreciate Greg's work. He made it seem easy but I can't say I could do what he did with such ease. Now I know everything I need to know about lacquer finishes: Greg. :icon_thumright:

Some excellent updates in the thread and it sounds like you had a cool day with Greg.

Anyway if you have an attached image. Once it is attached you can then right-click on it, copy the image address, paste into the body of the post, highlight the text and use the Image icon to surround it with the img tags.

It then should look something like this...

Code:
[IMG]https://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=30784.0;attach=49389;image[/IMG]

And when posted will give this result...(you will still have the attachment at the bottom of the post of course)

index.php

Neat trick!

index.php

Inlay tag width dimension

Lets you use formatting stuff as well.

I had a great time having Robert over. The guitar turned out really nice and I loved the back pickup. It was also fun firing up the 1964 Fender Champ and hearing his guitar make it scream.

What a great idea. Totally logical, too. Thanks for that. I'll give it a try to see how that works.

Well, that's a success! Thanks, Stratamania!

I'll have to play with the formatting, too. Thanks, Kevin.

Makes me want to go find one of those. What a killer amp. I've had amps with more power that couldn't compare.

Your welcome....

Very nice Tele by the way. That transparent red colour is really good.
Thanks, depending on the light, that looks anywhere from maroon to red because it has a pearl clear coat over it. It's actually my favorite paint job. Not one I did, though.

Is the pickguard bakelite also?
