How Bout A Warmoth Raffle Guitar!!

Last I checked, this was an idea for a VOLUNTARY raffle.  If your risk tolerance is not very high, don't participate.  If you don't mind probably losing $10 to have the chance to win an $800 guitar designed by someone on the board and voted on by the board, go for it.  But if you don't want to do it, why be all super negative?  Just don't do it.

Like I said before, I'm pretty sure if we did it through Paypal, even if something bad did happen, we could all get our money back because I think Paypal insures up to $2000.  The 100 sided online dice thing sounds like an extremely unbiased way of doing the selection.  If we have a tie, we just do best 2 out of 3.

1. ocguy106 (Ken Tipton) tentative if board can agree how to do it without a conflict of interest
2. sundin4prez( jessie plewe)
3. nathan aldrich
4. stormbringer (Brandon Arnold)
5. DocNrock (Brent Jackson)
6.DangerousR6(Doug Shepard)
7. Guitlouie (Gregg Ledoux)
8. GoDrex (Gary Drechsel)
9.sbk12(Wesley Novak)
10. Kataar (Brandon Bryan)
11.Wana's_makin'_a_guitar (Connor Cook)

All for it, whichever way (gift cert. or showcase items) A guitars a guitar, don't like the finish, re-do it yourself!

I'm not being super negative, so don't be super bitchy.
When someone walks away with $800, I just get "I told you so" rights.

No, I'm not interested in holding the money.
It's interesting to me that most of the people who are "super" into this idea are kids. Super gullible kids.

If you don't want to join then don't, it really isn't that big of a deal. For the most part this form is filled with some of the nicest and hepfull people and I am sure most feel as though they know the other. I am not looking to rip a form off for $800. I won't go into deep detail of what I do for a living but believe me $800 is not a lot of money and I sure as heck wouldn't go through the trouble of burning 80 people and the ability to never return to a form such as this to get it. I am not one of the senior mmembers of this board but enough people know me (or know of me) enough to trust this is on the up and up. You may not be one of those people and that is quite alright. You work hard for your money and you should protect it at all cost and that is what you are doing. To come and tell the world the sky is falling and everyone is going to lose there money...well that was noted the first time you said it and I am sure people will heed your warning and it may be good advice in the future for some other form.

As for the list of people signed up it apprears to me there are more adults then "kids" the list is currently comprised of Doctors, Machinists and Engineers all of which I am sure have some level of intelligence to get that far in a career path. In any event you won't be missed and I am sure the humble winner will not be telling you "I told you so" after they win.

I'm in if it all goes well.  I may not have a whole lot of money, but 10 bucks won't kill me.  And if someone walks off with it...  Oh well, I'm out 10 bucks.  I've wasted 10 bucks on dumber things before.

Dude, I wasn't referring to you personally, I was talking about the large group of complainers who have been on this thread.  I'm just saying don't rain on the parade for the people who are up for having some fun at their own risk.  I never called you an *sshole, so don't call me bitchy.

Large group? I only count ildar and myself showing some concerns (and my concerns pretty much being put to rest) and dbw only saying that it's never going to work. Hardly a large group.

Multiple people/large group... who cares?  My point is that if you're not going to participate anyway, it doesn't make any sense to be a naysayer.

but he wants to - he just wants to make sure it's on the up and up... but yeah he said that already. I put my name down on the list but I still had questions. Seems wise to want to find out exactly how it's going to work before getting involved, even if you and others think everyone should just trust completely with no idea how it will work.

The next time I go to Vegas, I'm just going to spend my time screaming at the slot players, telling them that they are throwing their money away.  That way when they don't win anything, I get "I told you so" rights.  That would make loads of sense and would really help my ego...

The point was made long ago, there is risk involved with this raffle.  Everyone understands that, why are we still talking about it?  I only said something because it was starting to get annoying.

Jesus, it's not my $10 I'm worried about, I don't know how to make that more clear. It's the legitimacy of this raffle, the trustworthiness of someone who won't even say what he does for a living, and the general risk for everyone involved.
Since it seems I need to spell it out: I AM NOT WORRIED ABOUT $10, I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS IS A SCAM.
Again, even to this point, the only assurance I've gotten is: dude, it's only $10.

I only said I didn't want to get into what I do cause it is irrelevent. I am an RF Engineer and do design and optimization on cell towers for all the major cell carriers.  Basically I design cellular networks or tune existing ones that is a full time job so my time as a internet bandit are quite limited. Call me up I am at my desk now....nothing to hide here.

We could get warmoth to hold the money because they are going to end up with it anyway, and say something were to happen, not you have ten dollars at warmoth to spend.

No, the questionable legality of holding a raffle over an unofficial forum is one thing.

Asking a company to organize it is entirely different.

I've never heard of a dispute of the legality of a raffle.

Do a raffle at the church every thanksgiving for a turkey. never needed to buy a license or anything.

Little johnny from Montana bought a horse for $100.00, The horse owner told Johnny he'd deliver the Horse the next day.

The Next day the Farmer shows up and say" I got some Bad news, the horse died"

"Then give me back my $100.00" says Johnny         " Can't" says the Farmer," I spent it"

"Then Bring me the dead Horse"   "Well what are you gonna do with a dead horse?"

I'm gonna sell raffle tickets and sell it" says Johnny,  "You can't do that" says the farmer

Oh yeh? watch me.

Three months later the farmer sees Johnny and asks" What ever became of the Horse"

"Well" says Johnny, " I sold Raffle tickets for $2.00 a piece, and I sold 500 tickets, so I made Money"

Didn't anyone complain? says the Farmer,  Yeh, the winner, so I gave him back his $2.00

And again, we realize it could be a scam, and we don't care.  You've said it like 10 times, made condescending comments about the people who want to do it anyways, and for some reason you can't let it go.  All I'm saying is that the "what if this is a scam?" comments are getting old.  It has been established, we understand that there is a chance it could be a scam, end of discussion.  I'm sure many of us have used ebay or paypal before to buy something on the internet.  Every time you do anything on the internet, there is a risk you could get scammed.

I have an idea, let's work on the designing contest part now!  That sounds like fun and way less boring than reading the same messages over and over again.
