I have deep reservations about something like this. Although this is a generally great internet forum, this is still the internet. I wouldn't know one of you if I ran you over. No offense, but I don't know who I can trust with my $10, let alone with others' $800 (or more).

Jesus folks!!!!!!!! Its 10 frickin dollars!!!!!!!!! Doesnt someone on this board work at Warmoth? Let them or a mod handle it.Its really not that big of a deal..Some of you guys are making this out to be way harder than it really is...Hate on me all you want, but if you dont want to do it. dont do it and go post somewhere else.

As soon as the list gets a little longer then we can collect the money. That way we have know we have enough people to push the whole thing through the end. We may have to change to just a body and go to 400 if more people don't want to join. As far as Warmoth is concearned I am sure they don't want to have anything to do with this. Whoever want to join, join if not no big deal I think it will be fun for all that do decide to participate.

Ken

something un-finished...make them work for that free guitar!

Also it would allow more guitar for the budget!

Haven't found my body choice, but here is a sweet neck!

I'm sure the W employees are chomping at the bit to donate their time for this. Also, I am aware it's "only $10". It's my $10, your $10, the other guy's $10...
You want to be gullible, that's your choice, but don't make people out to be cheap or foolish because they're concerned about what smells like a ripoff.
Hey, I have an idea, everyone send me $10, and I PROMISE to let you know who wins...it will be my buddy down the street, who really is a Warmoth customer.
I swear.

um... I already had this idea and I'm the winner. I get the feeling you haven't read the entire thread. :laughing7:

I think if we use PayPal we could at the least all file a complain against the person - that would probably work. And the online dice idea seems pretty good to me as far as being fair about who actually wins - since no one could rig it and everyone would see the outcome. But I hear what you're saying. I honstly don't think we'll get enough people involved to make happen anyway.

I'm definitely not interested in finishing my own guitar. No thanks. I suck at that sort of thing and really don't have a place to do it.

I though about the Paypal thing too. But how are 80 people going to file a claim? If this is to work, every contingency has to be ironed out. There are way too many thieves infesting the net, especially these days.

well each person would open a dispute with the person - so he'd have 80 disputes - then if the person never responds we'd have to each file a claim. Any "seller" that doesn't respond to a claim defaults, and the "buyer" is automatically refunded.

seems to me like it's more risky for the person who is taking the money in :icon_scratch:

Yeah, actually I think Paypal ensures payments up to $2000 automatically, so if it goes wrong, I'm pretty sure you you can get your $10 back.

I had a recent incident with a guy on ebay who never sent me my item, and I just cancelled the payment.  No worries.

Playing the Devil's Advocate here, but what would stop unhappy people (ie - everyone who didn't win) from saying they were ripped off?

that's what I was thinking - though I didn't actually come out and say it.  :laughing7:

You don't always get your money back from Paypal. I was taken for $350. I filed a claim and won, but they never recovered a dime.
What's to keep the person collecting the money from obsconding? It's not like he'll send an email saying "hey, I'm screwing you guys"...it'll take a while to figure out that the deal is going sour. Then it's not $10, but hundreds of dollars that are being stolen.

I like your concern for everyone, but I think the people who said before that if you don't want to participate, then don't,  might have been on to something.

Well, fact of the matter is I'd like to participate, but I want assurances. So far the only assurance I've gotten is "it's only $10".
