How Bout A Warmoth Raffle Guitar!!

It's too bad that Doc isn't lefty. The showcase would be FILLED with lefties... benefiting all of the other 5 lefties out there. :laughing7:

$1684. Crap.

I think the best way to do this is have everyone commit the $10 first.  Then we know exactly what the budget is (if there are 82 tickets bought the budget is $820), and people can't back out when the body they like doesn't win.

But honestly I think you'll have trouble finding 80 people who are interested.  I'm in, for what it's worth.

I think it's a great idea.........but...........as much fun as it is choosing our favourite body/neck combo's, I think it's only going to put people off taking part having someone else picking the winning prize. I've got very specific taste in guitars and seeing as how every one on the forum is building there own guitars rather than going the store bought route makes me think I'm not the only one with specific taste. I'd like to put forth another vote for the gift certificate. Either that or I'd like to go on record as being a left handed guitar player who likes to play upside down guitars.

Also if we choose the combo first and it takes a while to get the right number of people to take part, what are the chances of one or both of the pieces being sold? If we do it the other way it means people putting the money in with no idea of what the winning guitar is going to be like. I really think it would be better with the gift certificate, that way even if we only get $200 in the kitty at least the winner could put it towars something they like and the game wouldn't have to be abandoned.

gift cert sounds like the way to go because were all so picky and it is a custom guitar place at that, if warmoth organized this id buy into to for sure

Hey, whatever, I'd take any crazy thing you guys choose and make something out of it!  I kind of like the spirit of ocguys original plan....It's free take what you are given!

Yeah I think in the spirit of things I like the guitar aspect of it better. a gift certificate seems more like gambleing to me. I am still trying to figure out how I can do it and be fair so that I can join in but I don't think that is going to happen oh well it will still be fun as board activity

OK so if you are in copy the list below and put it in your reply and then add your name to it. Don't do a quote cause it will keep getting smaller and smaller.

1. ocguy106 (Ken Tipton) tenative if board can aggree how to do it without a conflict of interest

Sorry to be a wet blanket

It's a great idea and I'd definitely be in but...we would be crossing both state and international borders with this endeavor, so it could have all kinds of legal pitfalls.

Gambling in the US is usually legislated at the state level with wide variances.  Even with no cash payout, it still comes down to a game of chance where the potential equivalent cash value (if some jerk put it on eBay) would exceed the buy in.  The only way Warmoth could legally organize this would be as a straight up charity fundraiser, with no known outcome on ticket sales and a fixed prize amount.  This still doesn't cover shipping or tax levied for those outside the US.

OTOH....We could see if Warmoth could do a "Forum Member Special".  A short run item with a limited window of opportunity for a sweet discounted price.  Any variations (except lefty) may incur upcharges (i.e finishes, SS frets etc).

The nature of Warmoth is that you are getting custom parts that are unique to your build.
I sure as hell wouldn't have any use for a LP or a Tele, but i would love me a Strat... And some of you guys might be the other way around.

I would prefer that the "prize" be in the form of a gift certificate.

You need a tele. Trust me. There's a reason I've never heard "Once you go strat, you don't go back"

That's about enough, man.  You've got a really vivid imagination.  Warmoth doesn't cater to me, at all.  Hell, Jack has built more Warmoths than I have.  What is up with these off-hand comments towards me?  WTF?  Hell, I even tried to help you with your mammoth bone nut soap opera.

And to the original poster, I'd be into this concept.

I read that as being more of a compliment than an off hand comment, not that it's got anything to do with me, pretend I'm not here.
