If I was young, gay, stupid and in California, and I wanted to build a guitar out of old distressed wood I'd look for an abandoned old barn built of redwood. 

Oh yeah, that would rock!

If you like the barnwood motif, you may want to review the build thread for Jusatele's "Barn Door Tele". Very nice piece of work that eventually won Guitar of the Month 2 years ago. It's not redwood, but it's mighty fine.
