By the way, I ordered a set of the Schaller BM light tuners in black.  Only drawback at the moment is that there's no matching detuner, but can't have everything.

Are the BM light tuners significantly less weight? They look good.

I don't know, that's one I've never bought before.  But the short scale bass warhead neck has pre-drilled peg holes for them by default, which happens to be the same as the Fender ones I know and love but can't get in black.  Seeing as I would be using the Fenders normally, the Schaller BMLs would be my only option without changing mounting configurations.  I can pick and choose chrome or black this way without modification.

Goes to show you, it's not what you know, it's who you know.  Aaron talked with the Keeper of the Wood (love that title by the way) and the result is that I have a PF neck with the blank below and a black ebony FB on order.  It's a beautiful piece and I have high hopes it will pair nicely with this body.  I am a little worried about how busy it is in the peg head area, but we will see how this all shakes out.  I still like the way the PF/PF neck I already have looks (see the first image) in the mockup I did.  Then there's the whole question still of breaking the mojo on that GOM guitar.  Aaaaaack.  I'm overthinking things.  Suffice it to say I will have a stunning addition with this neck to my short scale collection, and I'll work out the details later.

I like both the black and the chrome hardware. I don't think you can go too far wrong with either. Have you tried gold on there yet?

Maybe chrome doodads with cream knobs or chrome knobs with cream inserts?

Edit: or even knobs with burl inserts?

The inserts in these are a bit too white but with aged pearl, they'd work good.

I set the gold on the body and they just got lost.  I was actually pretty surprised, I thought I would like it more.  But not really.

You're right about the gold disappearing. After looking at your black and chrome options with that in mind, the black seems to work better.
