Overachieving VIP Hollowbody

In Germany we call that what you're trying to achieve "eierlegende Wollmilchsau" ("egg-laying wool-milk-sow").

Versatility is always a compromise. Except when talking about @aarontunes kind of maximum versatility, which is the exact opposite! 😂

Jokes (mostly) aside: I would rethink the whole concept, especially since you talked about Metal 🤘; you don't want a lot of compromise in a Metal guitar, not even between different sub-genres! 😅

I mean, in the end it's your decision... or not! 'Cos one might argue, choosing everything is just a way of avoiding to make a choice. ;)

I'm not saying you do! But I'd encourage you to think about, what it is you want the most in a guitar and get that. If you come to the conclusion, that you want to be able to do everything, everywhere, all the time, but with compromises, well, then congratulations!

But maybe you won't, I know I wouldn't. That's why I have 9 electric guitars at the moment. 😅

That's just my zwei Pfennige, if you really want your guitar to be like that, with a gazillion options, feel free to ignore everything I just wrote. 🙂

So I made a mock up of the guitar with single coils in adapters… they look pretty funky imo. I’m probably going to have to find an alternative. I’m going to see if other colors might look better but i doubt it.
Funky, but functional - I gigged quite a lot with something similar -
almost 20 years ago I had a Bigsby-equipped Ghost MIDI guitar built... the 13-pin MIDI jack was placed under the Bigsby mount:

You can get awesome versatility with HSS, due to the enormous range of pickups available today.

HHH is also a cool option if you can choose the right humbuckers that give the right amount of tonal variation.

Routing HHH and putting adapter rings is naff idea IMO (apologies for this opinion). I actually tried this once, and it looks crude, diy, unfinished, etc. That might be nearly tolerable on a rat-rod, but looks out of place on a nicely built custom guitar. For a mix of pickup tones, IMO its better to be decisive and route for HSS, HSH, HHS, or put HHH with coil splits.

Well I’d rather have one really cool guitar than two guitars. Also I’d rather build my own perfect guitar with all the specs I want.
I'm only halfway through this entertaining read so I'm sure I'm repeating something already said. Statement qualifier disclaimed here it goes...

I would bet a box of donuts that at some point every member of this forum opened up their Warmoth catalog/website wanting to create "the perfect everything" guitar. If you just got one what would it be. Aaaaannndddd if you're me you ended up with a pair of humbuckers and an overwound single coil in the middle with Yamaha's knock off Floyd Rose and a push/pull pot to tap the bridge pickup in what weighs like a mahogany butcher block with a neck bolted to it.

That said decades later 98 percent of the time I only use the bridge pick-up tapped or not. I asked a tech buddy of mine to redo some of the wiring because it had developed a short and I have difficulty after a lifetime of manual labor holding my hands steady with a soldering iron.

The point is after I asked him not to he still hooked up the single coil to the push pull switch after I asked him not to because he was sure I would like it... Now I use the single coil even less but he did the work just for being my friend so I don't complain.

I also bought a fender player plus Mexican Strat because I thought the "S1" switch being able to use all three of the bridge and neck pickups would be cool... Had it a month and "traded" it out for an old American standard strat that needed new frets and traditional wiring that I was able to swap the neck on and fix the cold solder joints myself because the wiring is much more simple.

Long story long, more isn't always better, sometimes you need more than one tool to get the job done... Looking forward to finishing this thread and seeing the conclusion...

The suspense is killing me 🤣

I just tried and let the google translator say it and other than sounding a little tipsy (which she always does) it sounded quite right! 😅
I haven't heard this since I moved home to states from Switzerland over a decade ago but when I saw it I choked on my beverage and almost shot Dr. Pepper out my nose lol
