If you want rusty nails, salt water is pretty effective. Look at any car from the northern states prior to the 90s. But, you don't need to work that hard. If they're steel nails that aren't coated or treated in any way, they'll rust on their own pretty fast. And if you bend one over knocking it in, so much the better. Have you ever looked at the side of a barn? They weren't built by cabinet makers or luthiers. Plus, back in the old days they didn't have quality control like they do now. Lotsa nails bent over for a wide variety of reasons.

thanks, I need to do the back and sides then let it dry out a few days and do a grain sealer. after that I will start the lacquer and once I am satisfied with that I will order the body hardware
I have decided to have a black plate for the controls, a gold input jack and chrome bridge, like earlier mentioned I am going use Pad lock hasp rings for strap buttons. I have plans for a pick guard, but I am digging this finish so much it is getting hard to cover it up, I may just not use one, I have not ordered a neck yet either, the wood I use is totally dependent on how this finishes up, I am thinking bloodwood, but that depends on how red it already is, Plus the head stock, do I want traditional Tele, or a Warmoth design? You see, If I go Tele, then this is just a fender with a killer dye job, but if I go and do a Warmoth, then it is a plank of Barn Door and custom neck, Whatever it is, no inlays, I have decided that the raw look would be ruined with inlays.

I wonder, if anyone with the photoshop skills, could mock up a few pics of that body with different necks?

What neck wood/board wood combos do you want? And which headstocks?
head stocks, Tele, Warmoth, and finger board will be either bloodwood or birdseye, back would be maple

Gotcha. I'll see what I can do...

Okay, here ya go. I hope this is what you were wanting to see:

I had to "fake" the bloodwood board, as I couldn't find any in the Showcase to use. So don't pay attention to the oddly spaced fret lines.  :toothy11:

DUDE! the bloodwood boards have oddly spaced fret lines :icon_scratch:

I vote for birdseye tele. (the one to the left, if there was doubt.)

Really? I hadn't noticed that. I'll get right on it!

Would you like me to make you a sandwich while I'm at it?  :tard:

I think it could go either way, BW or BE...They all look good.... :dontknow:

first off, Scottie,  thanks a million, fantastic job

second, I am now torn, the headstocks are so tempting to go with the Warmoth, it looks so good

third, the bloodwood, IS it me or maybe that does not go

the birds eye, superfantastic

OK guys what is  your arguement on this?

I feel that the bloodwood is too red for the body.
But it could turn out nice after all.

I personally, wouldn't put a W headstock on a tele, but hey... it's your geetar  :hello2:

tel you what, the more i look, the more I like the Warmoth
now it is a matter of finger board
I guess I need one more with a rosewood Scottie, so i can see the three Warmoths side by side  blood Birds and Rosewood
you da man Scottie

i love the birdseye, first off.. BUT i'm undecided on headstock. the tele fits with the body, and the warmoth keeps the rough "barn door" sort of look. tough call!

That's the spirit! Nice work on those pictures, man!
I hope you make as good sandwiches as well!

wow thanks guys
Yea, I think the Warmoth is more rough

one more thought, I love 15 miles from Corona Ca, where the American made Fenders are, and the Custom Shop, You can get CS out the back door here for cheap. But Strats and Teles get no respect here as they are a dime a dozen. I mean I am in Fender Ground Zero here. So the Warmoth just sets it off, custom not standard. Hey I love my American made Fenders, but this is a dream build. My ideas of what a modern Tele should be.

Added the rosewood version, and just because I thought it looked cool, a canary version as well:

I also finished making Norwegian Guy's sandwich. Hope you like bacon...
