Barn Door Tele

Looking good mang, I've a suggestion. How about using a wood burning tool on the lines you've painted on the body to designate the boards..That would be cool... :headbang:

You need an address to ship it to?

+1 on the burning tool! This guitar is going to look awesome!
You should install some kind of device that adds farm sounds to your playing!  :laughing7:

the wood burning tool
althoough to buy one would be cheaper than shipping it

Barn Door has hit the shelf for a couple of weeks, I have a 700 dollar repair bill to my Crossfire so I do not want to pull out a CC so I need to not spend anything for a bit, even the 14 bucks for a wood burning tool, I sanded it down after the seal, it was a light seal and the grain is set in now but is still not level, I think I need the grain to be unlevel for that raw look.
My next plans are to burn in the line, I have looked online at some wood burn lessons and believe with a few days practice on my mock up Boards I will have a technique down
Plus I want to simulate nails. I think I can do that with the wood burning tool and a yellow sharpie.
So, because I do not want to go to fast and screw it up, I need to wait 2 weeks, practice my art work and go for it.
Patience  :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch:
So Now that I have decided that, I need to go play guitar, I have been using my extra time on the build and I am really upset with myself for not having practiced in over a week, I have a lot of hours to make up.  At the moment I am doing my Pre holiday Classical practice so I am up on my classical chops for the Family during Thanksgiving and Xmas Day get togethers. I will usually do a hour or two of classical stuff on each day and I have found they all look forward to it now
Any way. I need to practice, will report back in 2 weeks

the projects that take the longest are the most rewarding. especially with one like this where there's a ton of fine detail in it! more planning time means a better end product i think. sad to hear it's been delayed a little though!

I gotcha, well I'd loan you a wood burning tool if I still had one. But unfortunately I don't have one anymore, but once you're able to get one I think it will be an interesting and cool addition to the barn door...Once you get used to using it.... :icon_thumright:

Might I humbly suggest... nails?  :toothy10:

After looking at the pic you posted, and looking at the project as it is at this moment, I tend to agree. I will have a much better finished product If I just wait and do it right. No probs there, my completion date is projected in January anyway, You know Holidays take up time. I also seem to get a lot of calls this year to play out and expect a lot during the holidays

I agree, real rusty nails would be the bomb.... :icon_biggrin:

thanks, I need to do the back and sides then let it dry out a few days and do a grain sealer. after that I will start the lacquer and once I am satisfied with that I will order the body hardware
I have decided to have a black plate for the controls, a gold input jack and chrome bridge, like earlier mentioned I am going use Pad lock hasp rings for strap buttons. I have plans for a pick guard, but I am digging this finish so much it is getting hard to cover it up, I may just not use one, I have not ordered a neck yet either, the wood I use is totally dependent on how this finishes up, I am thinking bloodwood, but that depends on how red it already is, Plus the head stock, do I want traditional Tele, or a Warmoth design? You see, If I go Tele, then this is just a fender with a killer dye job, but if I go and do a Warmoth, then it is a plank of Barn Door and custom neck, Whatever it is, no inlays, I have decided that the raw look would be ruined with inlays.

I wonder, if anyone with the photoshop skills, could mock up a few pics of that body with different necks?

What neck wood/board wood combos do you want? And which headstocks?

I agree with the nails, but how do I find rusty nails, and then once I pound them in if it is a mistake then what do I do, I really want the nails, I have some but they are not rusty, how do you rust nails? In a fast fashion?

head stocks, Tele, Warmoth, and finger board will be either bloodwood or birdseye, back would be maple

once they're in they're in, leave 'em. To rust them quickly you can put them in a bucket of water and amonia.... :icon_thumright:

should I rust them and then drive, or drive them in and rust them so I get that rust ring on the wood? I could put a drop of water/ammonia mix, that would also weather around them a bit

I'd say rust 'em up, then drive 'em in and then drop some water/amonia mix on them....
