Hi guys, I'm planning my first build and desperately need some advice. I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could help out a bit...I am aware that there was a similar thread here but that might not be enough for now...Thank you all in advance!

Neck/Fingerboard : Wenge
Pickups: Aguilar Super Doubles
Preamp: Audere Pro Z 4-band

I would use it to play quite a few genres, from funk, jazz to metal. I particularly dig these sounds: https://goo.gl/MYLTZZ and https://goo.gl/ALsHkh. Love those tight mids but I'm worrying that mahogany would be too dark if aiming for tonal versatility. And I don't tap/slap/play chords a lot.

Don't know if I am just messing with myself or what but, according to https://goo.gl/nXqe6Y and https://goo.gl/TXCzRQ, dual coils with alder sounds a bit Fender-esque, which is a little bit weird to my ears. Also, I'm afraid that I may miss that low end tightness though. Hmmm.... hard choices.... what do you think?

Well first, what are you looking to build? I am presuming a bass.  What tones would represent what you are looking to achieve?

Yeah sorry my bad, it's a bass :) Tight mids with some low end, not too harsh on the treble... the demo mentioned really captured the essence

I can only give you a bit of my experience with Wenge. I swapped out a all maple tele neck for a Wenge ebony neck and it had a marked impact on the sound it was more of  a hi fi scooped sound with the Wenge neck. Wenge is a bit coarse and feels fine for a neck but I would not think it would work so well for a fingerboard.
