I decided to stick with the black pickguard..... pretty much ignored everyone's suggestions :doh:

That is awesome.  What do you call it, Strat or Tele?  It's both but it's neither.  How about a Stratele or Trat?

When I first saw this I really had my doubts, but seeing it all together makes perfect sense. In fact I'd even go so far as to that I think it looks better than both Strats and Teles. The burst to black and the black pickguard was definitely the right choice.

the best thing that I have to say is that when my wife saw it (and she sees all kinds of nice guitars), she immediately said "that's a great looking guitar!"
