The Hijack Thread.

Lars Ulrich isn't a super anything, bar an arsehole. Ordinary drummer.

The "Some Kind of Monster" rockumentray shows him in full glory! Fronting up to courthouse steps interviews pleading that Napster has to be stopped so recording artists will get due royalties, while 30 minutes later in the film, he's with his missus in the VIP lounge of an auction house, buying expensive artworks and sipping champagne! :tard:
He was selling them for expensive amounts, not buying them, but i do concur he did have quite a bit of fury towards napster.

This about sums it up:

I just wanted to point out that this is the hijack thread, not the non-sequitur thread. It should be somewhat tangential, even if only to random minds. That's bad when you hijack the hijack thread.

It can easily be hijacked back.  That's what it's for.

But...Napster?  Is this 1999?  Napster can be summed up as capitalizing on technology before the corporate market could adjust.  Before Napster, copying copyrighted material was already illegal.  It's printed on every CD jacket, and in other media markets its enforced heavily.  We've all heard the disclaimer on NFL games, "The rebroadcast of this or any portion of this broadcast is illegal w/out the expressed written consent of the NFL."  What about FBI warnings on DVDs?  Benign neglect is what allowed it to get to big to contain.  Metallica, specifically Lars, had to be the A-hole that pointed it out.  How much money he or the band has is really irrelevant.  How many have no problem with Napster but do have a problem with sampling?  Same thing.  It's benefitting from something you didn't pay for.  In the long run, because of Napster record stores are extinct and artists make even less money off of their music on iTunes.  And, the Napster kid - Sean Parker is being revealed for what he really is.  An oppurtunist out to make a buck on the work and ideas of others.  Atleast Lars went out and created something to make his millions.  Did Sean Parker?  Even Warmoth has to pay Fender.

In the interests of not hi-jacking the hijack thread, I might create another OT thread for this question because I think it's worth discussing.

Now for my real hijack

I bring you, sexy saxophone man

Lars is a monster drummer. Yes he is a douche but that angry little man behind the insane kit is an undeniable force. As far as artists getting their royalties they earned them. How would u like for someone to tell you hey you have earned enough. You don't need anymore? Besides we are probably just expecting way too much out of him. After all he is only a drummer. If he had personality he'd play guitar.

When a drummer has to record their parts all in tiny bits to be edited together by a producer they are, by definition, not a monster drummer.
Overrated doesn't even describe it.
So have you never seen his live work? Cmon dude seriously he has an instantly recognizable style. He brings the thunder. Again I don't like what I've seen of the guys personality. I'm not a big fan of his bands recent studio efforts. All I'm saying is in my band I would rather have Lars behind the kit than Steve Gadd or Buddy Rich who are way better drummers than he is.

I've seen some amazing live drummers, but he isn't one of them. He can't actually pull off any of the "hard" stuff he does on record.

This guy is an amazing live drummer (I've seen all three live):

So is this guy:

and him:

Lars isn't.

If you insist that I write my name on a stoopid stick-on name tag, my name is always "Joe Mama".  I'm always stunned by the % of morons that address me as "Mr. Mama"...

Yes yes we could list amazing drummers for days. What Lars does he does well. But Cletus let it go dude. I'm no Lars fancy but you are making me stick up for him way more than anyone should. I'm not sayin he's the best ever. I'm not saying he has amazing timing or the absolute best fills. It's just a good combination of everything. That's it. Now as far as Napster, they are also the reason concert tickets are $80 for some general admission seats.

I dunno why you're jumping up and down for an ordinary drummer. Just sayin.

Well I can say for a fact that none of those guys would have the notoriety they do if it wasn't for the angry little man behind the Tama double bass kit. Besides I would hardly say I'm jumpin up and down.

Fact you say? Right.

Songs (good or not) that I never care to hear a bar band play again:
-Sweet Home Alabama
-Freebird
-Keep Your Hands to Yourself
-Ain't No Sunshine
-Pride and Joy
-Oklahoma Breakdown
-The Boys from Oklahoma
-Hotel California
-She Talks to Angels
-Mustang Sally
-House of the Rising Sun
-Let It Be

Thing is, everybody thinks they do.  I once told a guy "I ain't doing Sweet Home Alabama."  He said, "You've never heard me do it."  I said, "That's also what you'll say at the end of the night."  If he wanted do some Skynyrd, bring some On the Hunt, Ballad of Curtis Lowe, or I know a Little.  Sweet Home and Simple Man, the overplaying stops here.

I hear guys all the time try to be SRV clones, so much I can barely stand SRV songs, Same for Skynard

I know how you feel,

But I did not know you had it in for Mustang Salley,

I am a huge Buddy Guy fan. And I also do "Damn Right I got the Blues"
