I hear guys all the time try to be SRV clones, so much I can barely stand SRV songs, Same for Skynard

I know how you feel,

But I did not know you had it in for Mustang Salley,

I am a huge Buddy Guy fan. And I also do "Damn Right I got the Blues"

:rock-on: :party07: :cool01:

The Mustang Sally thing is just a saturation thing with me I guess.  Inherently, there's nothing wrong with it but it's become synonymous with the jam scene.  Pride and Joy, Voodoo Chile, Little Wing, and Hey Joe are like that too.  Nothing wrong with any of those, just songs for strangers to play together I guess.

Super
All SRV is so over done at jams, I go, oh poop not again every time some one pulls it out, I used to love my SRV collection, gathers dust now as I am as you said, over saturated. I think that we can all say that about some songs though, When was the last time you just wanted to break a guys Axe because he opened with Satisfaction, well 20 years ago it was a lot.

If you wanna have some fun with SRV, try taking the chord progression to "Lenny" and Travis-picking it at about 120 bpm with a clean Tele bridge pickup thing going on.  That'll turn your head around.  Suddenly it's a Western Swing tune!

The guys I jam with most regularly don't know any of these songs. Nor any other of the classic rock songs I like to play. Nor any of the punk, ska, metal or alternative songs I like. Anyone else see a trend?

I need to find new people to jam with.

That's how it was with a friend of mine that I played with. He was a great guitarist, but we were never really on the same page. Partly because our musical tastes were different and partly because he was so much better than I was. I guess I got lucky though because we always found a middle ground with a song neither of us would normally learn and we'd jam to that.

And I don't think I've jammed with ANYBODY in years :sad1: I miss it. Definitely made me into a better player.

I love to Jam because I always walk away with something to practice, we were doing a funk tune the other night and this guy was blowing me away with this rhythm, I stood in front of him with my guitar volume turned off and watched as I tried to keep up till I had the pattern memorized . rest of the night between songs I was comping it, next day I was comping it till I got it nailed. Jamming is a killer way of getting better.

You nailed it, J. Jamming, especially with people who are better players than you or with players who have a different style, is always great because you can learn so much. My best jam partners have moved away, and with the guys I play with now--technically my band mates--basically all we do is play our dozen-or-so songs. That's important too, obviously, but I really miss just jamming away at stuff.

My favourite Jam is usually Raspberry Jam, but I prefer Vegemite.

Winslow! Police Academy, anyone?

The guy is amazing, the song citizens on patrol by the LA Dream Team has him doing a whole bunch of voice overs.

I figured this would be a more appropriate place.

Awesome project!  Just watched a Them Crooked Vultures concert on youtube, and JPJ indeed uses a purple sparkle Manson lapsteel (looked like 10 strings) - that guy is AMAZINGLY talented.

As for your pickups, have you considered these?

Paul McCartney, JPJ, what do you do when you're the best guitar player in the band?  Play bass.  They were definitely the Peter Tork of those bands.
