Tele-a-thon

I caved. Soloist in the works. Walnut bought, jointed, glued and scraped. Shape editing to be done by tactile feedback once it's cut out. Still waiting on him whether or not we're going hardtail or Floyd.

I also caught the whacky tobaky neck pocket - fixed.

Mmmmmmmmm, the old grid scale trick.... :icon_thumright:

Prolly quicker and more accurate scale than trying to get the local repro place to do it, tell them it's wrong, refuse to pay... Anyways, I had some time. Also made a zemaitis template the same way.

I have decided to limit myself to those 4 builds and not start anything else.

Except 2 palletcasters, oh, and the soloist my brother actually wants, oh and anything else ADHD condemns me to.

Distracted by a Zemaitis "test run" on 2nd grade walnut.

Broke my bandsaw blade doing it!

And got my brass inserts today, which not surprisingly don't fit on pot shafts and will need some re-drilling.

Looking for a solution for the metal front (& back?) on the guitar. May give it to my dad as a temporary guitar.

CHeck out some of the metal top treatments this guy has done to his custom guitars:

Things are moving along nicely.

Went to metal superstore today, bought too-small aluminum plates (0.083") and blocks to make my tailpiece (I got 3 in case I messed up, turns out I messed up on the size of the plates  :binkybaby: ). So I shrunk the template I made by 3/16" all around (to make it fit to the plates). Seemed like a reasonable compromise, vs driving 45 minutes each way to go back to metal superstore...

I also routed the roundover - a very vintage-tele-esque 1/8".

Planning on plates front and back.

On the upside, working aluminum is ridiculously easy. Same tools. Using the template bit was brutal though - a shower of razor sharp aluminum sparkles.

Have you ever thrown sawdust over a fire? Yep, instant fireball. Now add aluminum sparkles to that sawdust - I'm very excited.

*edit - s is next to d. put two s's next to an a instead of d's and you're in trouble.

Looks pretty sweet, aluminum is hella fun to work with, I love it...

And for some more shyts and giggles, you should see what Titanium does when it catches fire..... :evil4:

I've done magnesium, boric acid, and white vinyl covered copper wire (best by far).
magnesium is fun, I caught an old 60's VW tranny on fire once, that stuff burns with a furry....

http://www.warmoth.com/%2FJazzmasterJaguar-Bridge-Chrome-P567.aspx

So the Jazzmaster bridge, in the description says the following:

This bridge is designed to pivot on adjustable mounting posts.

Does the whole bridge pivot??? I'm looking for a nice thick TOM style bridge for the ZEM style guitar.

I wouldn't think so, I've never seen one that did...I could be wrong....I'd just get one with roller saddles.... :dontknow:

So I like the schaller roller TOM because it's wide, but not the wheels that stick out on either side. I want something thicker than the gotoh TOM STP, but with a tail piece. Suggestions?

Or planning a nice pickguard.  :glasses9:

Shouldn't have brought it home. "What a nice platter! You're not going to cut that are you? I never spent that much on a serving platter!"

"honey, it's not a platter, it's a pickguard. And it was only 30$ more than a pickguard would have cost..." Wasted arguments. May need to look for another platter.

My share of the inheritance.
