Tat Strat

I want one. If I start studying now maybe I can draw tattoos all over stuff in about 6 years.

Gorgeous guitar.  :glasses9:

Absolutely brilliant! I love doodling abstract stuff like that on paper (it was one of my favorite pass-times in school), but I never thought of wood-burning something like that all over the body. If I had any skill with a wood burner, I'd give this a shot. Can't wait to see/hear the finished result.

The project has been progressing slowly, but I hope to get all of the neck design drawn in pencil within the next week. Here's what I did so far:

DUH - ROOL!

what fantastic execution of an AWESOME idea.  :icon_thumright:

. . . so are you prepared to start taking orders from others? I can easily see a (admittedly niche) market for this work.  Anyone else think so? :dontknow:

I wouldnt mind a woodburnt 'inlay' on my next project headstock  :laughing7:, if purpleheart looks alright burnt  :icon_biggrin:

Purpleheart might be a bit dark already to burn, so the design wouldn't jump right out. But, that might be the uber-classy way to do that. Something subtle, that only a chosen few can see and appreciate. From a distance, it would just look like texture, so the head wouldn't look naked. Up close? Godzilla, shamelessly smashing Tokyo once again! I like the idea. Not smashing Tokyo, just subtle monstrosity <grin>

I'll draw designs for guitars but I don't have the time to do woodburning projects. If anyone wants custom designs of the tribal or abstract style, just PM me. I could also do Celtic, comic book art, etc.

I can already see, this is going to need a tribal neck plate.... :laughing7:

After I get closer to assembling this thing, I'll be looking to get a black neckplate engraved with a custom tribal design and some info about the guitar.

Wow, only just seen this thread. What an incredible build.

I think after this you should offer your services as a guitar tatooist. That honestly looks quite amazing.

Almost done drawing the designs on the neck, except for one fret. It's such a small space to draw in, especially after the 12th fret, so I decided to get as much detail in there as I could. It won't really match the body as much as I wanted but they still look good together. I'll post photos of the neck and body together after I clean up the artwork more. As you can see, all the designs have a "fret dot" in the middle which will be untouched by the woodburning - so the fretboard will still have kind of a Strat look to it, within the large rectangle inlay pattern. I can't wait to start burning the neck within the next few weeks.

That's such a brilliant idea.  I'm just finding this thread now but I'm really excited to see how it turns out.
