Just let us know what month you plan to enter it so we can all stay home.

+1. This project is awesome!  :blob7: :blob7: :blob7:

Thanks everyone for the compliments on the guitar. I'm done with about 90% of the woodburning on the body, so I'm working on the stain for a while. The plan is to have the black undercoat looking weathered and finish with a thin coat of dark brown. I refinished my bass a few months ago the same way but with a blue stain - those photos are posted below. The difference between the Strat and the bass is that I'm using a finer sandpaper now and sanding it down more evenly (the bass had big spots of black showing through the blue finish).

Here's the pictures of my bass - first with just the black and another of the blue before the clear coat.

Here's the Strat with one coat of black stain before sanding. It was thin enough that it still looked like transparent grey in some spots.

And after the first sanding.

Closeup photo after sanding. After the brown stain is on, I want it to look like dirty or weathered wood that's been stained over. I'll probably only do one or two coats of brown, then buff it a little.

Here's a picture of the woodburning I've done so far, with a preview of the fretboard and headstock designs.  :headbang:

I hope you yourself have similar tattoos. if not, you may have to at least get a shirt made with similar patterns  :icon_thumright:

When I first thought of this guitar design, it was gonna have a plain maple neck with no inlays at all, but it looked too empty in the mockups I drew, so I decided to extend the woodburning to form block-style markers like on a Les Paul as you can see in that last photo.

I was worried about the strings rubbing against the rough edges of the burnt wood, so my plan is to do the outlines first, sand them down, then do the shading. Put some Tru-Oil on top of that and it should be smooth.

Son of a bitch that is an amazing guitar. Remind me to do that with a tele.....

I think it wood be cool to have a similar design on a carved top tele, with a darker woodburing, then finished with the traditional yellow stain.

I only have 2 small tattoos, but this project is inspiring me to get more.

Just ordered the neck - Maple Vintage Modern CBS w/ 1/34" wide nut, compound radius, standard thin shape, 21 frets, stainless jumbo frets and the black graphtech nut to match the black hardware. I got the tuner holes drilled for the Gotoh/Grover size which I can easily modify myself if I change my mind and go with the Planet Waves tuners.  :headbang:
