Starting a Jazzcaster build and documenting the progress

I just recently got a Warmoth Jazzcaster Swamp Ash body weighing 4.9 pounds with the traditional Telecaster pickup configuration.  I'm making a photo album on Google Photos to document the progress.  I'm painting it Apple Green for now.  I've never painted a guitar before and have no idea how to paint a guitar properly so this should be amusing:)

It would have been alright to have a bit of paint in those holes.... And you should have sealed the grain first before shooting color.... But you're committed now, so drive on. I hope your amusement lasts....

The paint I used is labeled as paint plus primer and the sanding was super smooth so maybe it will work out alright.  As long as it sounds good, I'll be alright:)

What kind of paint did you use? When lacquer gets sprayed onto wood with no grain filler or anything, I usually like the way it ends up looking. Especially after it's been played for awhile.

It is Krylon Gloss Apple Green.

I had a Telecaster HH for a while that a friend's 6 year old daughter painted with Sherwin-Williams Forest Green house paint with no base coat and no top coat.  It sounded fantastic!

That's a nice color. It should look really good. :icon_thumright:

Thanks!  I've always been a black or red guitar person.  Gloss Apple Green seems like a good way to venture out and live a little.

All done except for some minor hum from the pickups that needs attention.

I have to trace the source of the hum that goes away when I touch the control plate, either knob, the input jack, or neck pickup.  I put in a Super Distortion and an Area T.  I probably forgot a ground wire somewhere :icon_biggrin:

Is this humming sound anything anyone has encountered before?

Never had a problem like that before, it's usually, for me, an all or nothing hum.  I found using a conditioner like from voodoo labs helps.  Even with the hum, it doesn't sound bad to me.

Check the grounding of the power socket your amp is connected to. I had something very similar and found the earth wire loose inside the socket. Annoying with a transistor amp but potentially lethal with tubes.

I've got the problem with every source you can think of except for plugging straight in to a Boss TU-88 Tuner(it has a headphone jack and metronome).  I'll check those things you guys said.  Humming drives me nuts!
