My first build in years ... the Plaidocaster!

I wan't planning on doing a build, but I stumbled upon this tele body on Reverb. I thought it looked pretty funky and cool, and a hand painted nitro piece of art to boot. I showed my girlfriend and she exclaimed, "it's a Plaid-ocaster!" and that's when I knew it had to happen. She is always rolling her eyes at my dad jokes -- I was so proud that she had made a guitar pun, and that obviously had to become its name.

So I thought I'd start this thread to track my progress. I've got a great traditional tele, so I'm thinking something a little bit more modern and rock-centric for this one. I've ordered a neck from Warmoth - roasted maple, standard thin, compound radius, stainless steel frets, and suppose I have about 4-5 weeks to figure out the rest of the details.

Excited to discover this community while researching details! I hope to share my updates (though I want to take my time and get things right!) and I appreciate any thoughts or advice you might have along the way. Cheers!

Locking tuners installed! I decided to go with a reverse headstock as a bit of a hat tip to Hendrix, but then I had a little trouble finding exactly the right spec tuners in lefty. Turns out they are 100% reversible! So after a youtube clip, I was able to take apart the tuning peg, pop the shaft out and  back in the other way. Not shabby!

(this is going to be DB001, but obviously I now need to start planning 002 and 003  :toothy10:)

My father always taught me to "measure twice, cut once".

This was more like tape up, measure twice, re-tape, measure again, is this even straight?, what am I measuring again?, and finally drill. I always find this part a bit nerve wracking :tard:

Think it looks pretty straight though. Onto the neck mount

Looking good. Yes, it does pay to measure twice (or more) before doing anything.
