Hi all. I'm currently putting together a Strat build through Warmoth. I've worked everything out apart from the finish; I'm stuck on whether to get Alpine White in gloss or satin.

I've had a look around and not found a huge amount of pictures that show this colour in both finishes.

If anyone here has a guitar in Alpine White satin, I'd love to see some pictures. Also, how have you found the satin finish has ages with time? How long did it take for it to start to buff to a gloss?

Thanks in advance.

This question has arisen before and I and others with satin finish bodies have said that they don't seem to gloss. Warmoth uses a special paint that seems to be permanently satiny.

It's true. The new satin finishes are very robust and seem to stay that way even with handling.

I would think a satin finish Alpine White would be glorious. No color, no reflection, just stark nothingness. Put black hardware on it, with stainless frets on an inlay-free Ebony fretboard...

That's my kinda girl!

Thanks for the replies, guys.

@ Cagey, I will indeed be getting it with an ebony fretboard and SS frets, though I'm going with chrome hardware and Mother of Pearl dot inlays, and white pearl pickguard.

The design idea is basically my take at a more subtle version of the Ibanez Jem (definitely no monkey grip.)

I'm sure the Ibanez Gem is a fine instrument, but that monkey grip has got to be one of the stupidest-looking affectations I've ever seen on guitar.

Did I say that out loud?

Yes. Yes I did. And I don't care who heard me. Talking to you, Steve "worship me" Vai.

Agreed. I mean it's definitely something that he can say is his... just not my taste.

I love the Wizard neck though. Funnily enough, my first guitar had a boatneck, and years later I've realised the thinnest neck possible is the one I should have really got to start with.

Agreed. That, and the straight 17" radius are deal-breakers for me.

I picked up the Satin finished body and neck during the recent Warmoth sale as I have a request to build a Strat Tele combo but not in the layout of Warmoth's Strat Tele hybrid catering for a Tele type pickguard, pickup chrome bridge and control plate layout on a Strat body.  This one will be strictly a Strat with Tele pickups and a hardtail bridge.

Still Work-In-Progress and waiting for a Rutter La Burrito American Standard Tele hardtail bridge and DiMarzio's Area T pickups with a Strat Area 58 for the middle.  Once the pickups arrive, I will cut out the space for the Tele bridge pickup on the pickguard.  Not sure how it's going to sound but that Spank and Twang is quite assured with string-thru-body and the steel 3-barrel saddles.

I should finish this one, one of these days.

Outstanding. Black is the only 'color' (technically, black really isn't a color) I like with a satin finish. The gloss black pickguard really makes it.

I agree - black satin looks fantastic. I have a black satin Tele with pearloid binding here that I'll start a build thread on later today that's just gorgeous. Got the comfort cuts all over. It's gonna be a sharp instrument.

I'm planning on starting a satin finish build very shortly.  It'll be my first one. This might be a stupid question but do you apply any type of satin clear on top of the satin paint?

All the examples in this thread have been done by Warmoth's paint shop I think rather than the individual owners. So it would be a question for Warmoth.
