she weighs only 3.5 kilo's, with all hardware mounted! She plays like a dream, man, incredible! the neckpickup is a stagmag and is great for, well, what not? the bridge pickup is a PATB2, and rocks like crazy! really, I'm in love. the neck is wenge with an ebony board with great figuring, again! I always ask for 'regular' ebony, and I get ebony with great streaks in it. when I ask for macassar, its just well, the same as this :P I really like this guitar :D She will get finish, ofcourse, but I wanted to make a before and after comparison, to see how finish affects the tone. She'll be purplemist by the way.

that thing looks amazing as is! almost too bad it'll be getting a finish. are you going to be making sound clips for comparison? either way i'm looking forward to hearing how a finish might impact tone (since the tone-heads talk about that as much as anything else).

really really love the p-90 middle, by the way :icon_biggrin:

That p90 is indeed very cool :D I like it myself too, haha.

I don't think you can hear those nuances in a clip, sorry.

Are you using the Free Way toggle in this project , Orpheo? (You mentioned that you had one, in a previous post)

Number 11! You know the pot knobs are going to have to be '1" louder, Orph? :laughing7:

I'd also suspect it might have been more cost-effective for you to grow your own Wenge and Ebony trees given the amount of wood you have bought from Warmoth!!!  :icon_jokercolor: (somewhere in Africa there's a forest with your name on it, mate, he he)

As always this project will be interesting to see take shape, looking forward to the sound grabs, interesting pickup combo.

No, I explicitly said I wouldn't be using that thing :P it doesn't work for me :) but that idea is cool (about the knobs :D )

Oh, OK,  I remember your comments saying the FreeWAy wouldn't do certain things you wanted, but I thought you were referring to that instrument in that Thread. And I wrongly thought that when I saw this guitar without the 5 way slot (like is on a number of your LP projects), but with the toggle only, that you were going to utilise what you had to hand , ie: the Free Way toggle.

So... how is the wiring going to work on this one?

So... how is the wiring going to work on this one?

I'll try to explain what I want.

I have 3 signal wires, 1 for each pickup.

take a 5 way blade with 2 poles, and this is the way its wired.

pole 1:
0 - bridge
0 - bridge
0- bridge
0 - middle
0- nothing

pole 2:
0 - nothing
0- middle
0 - neck
0 - neck
0 - neck

each pole has a wire as an output. that wire goes to a pot.

summarizing, that gives you the opportunity to have bridge, bridge+middle, bridge+neck, neck+middle, neck, and on EACH setting, you can adjust tone and volume to your liking. also, in ONE move, you can switch from neck to bridge, and everything in between. Since my 'moves' are so smooth due to muscle memory, and I switch mostly between neck and bridge, I don't have to learn a new trick to switch, nor do I have to hold back, cause my switching tends to go quite fast and almost aggressive :P I hit the toggle to switch between pickups. I don't hold it, and then toggle. I just smack the sh*t out of that thing :P thats why the 6 way stick doesn't work for me. its too complex, too fragile, and it doesn't give me that double volume-thing.

my newest project (not this one, the new one will be a wenge back padouk top LP, with a padouk/ebony neck) will get the 5 way slot 'below', near the pots. that will be for switching (as an experiment) and the upper toggle will be for coiltaps. but maybe I'll cut the 5 way slot where the 3 way toggle is now. that fits supertight in the cavity. Also, I'll make a special plate to cover the holes of the toggle. I found a nice piece of padouk, just perfect!

You're going to use a proper cover on this neck pickup, right?

yes I have said so already ;)

and yeahh this one will get a purplemist finish. no burst this time. I want every bit of that lovely top visable.

Lovely guitar, cant wait to see the purple on that thing  :icon_thumright:
project 11..... i need to get a move on.... oh being a jobless idiot  , well not idiot anyways, but jobless  :tard:

you guys are right. it looks like crap :P thats why I decided to rerout the p90 for a humbucker rout. I'll glue in 4 little pieces of wood for the screws to grab a hold on to. Its not really the succes I've been hoping for :P added bonus? I don't have to do strange things with the p90, to make it work. just 2 humbuckers, 2 volume, 2 tone. done. the middle is just for looks.
