I ordered these from World Music Supply.  They're about $20 each, but this vendor offers quantity discounts.  :)

what are those strange silver bars on the fretboard of the closest bass?  :icon_scratch:

They are fretless lines, but they are thicker than the lines on the other necks.

The 3rd and 4th closest ones have mismatched (chrome and black) tuners and bridges. That's ok though, you can just send them to me. :icon_biggrin:

I might just do that!  :icon_jokercolor:  Actually that was sort of intentional.  I used to have black tuners on the Purpleheart neck a while ago, but chrome looked better.

I'm curious, Tubby, with all those wood and electronics combos you have available, what does your amp setup look like?

My amp rig is relatively modest.  I have a single Carvin B800 amplifier, with a pair of Acme 3-way cabinets: one "Low B-1" and one "Low B-2".  It makes a nice mini-stack.  I'll try to get a picture of that as well.

Was it you that had the purpleheart Gecko body with the three soapbars? And where is the ipe board?

It was me.  The Purpleheart body is #4 from the left.  The neck with the Ipe fingerboard is in the middle, attached to a body with a figured Walnut top and a pair of Delano pickups, in P and MM shape.  It's hard to see the wood grain in this light.

Word to the wise - no bubble bursting intended: I had to get rid of a hercules "hanger" stand I bought some years ago as it ended up doing some minor damage to the nitro finish on my LP.  Not sure if it will be an issue for you but it certainly ended up being a disappointment for me. Just the wrong kind of plastic foam apparently...  though I think I read somewhere that they changed the design.

Yep, I saw the thread on that subject.  Most of my necks are raw.  I'll keep a close watch on the few that have a finish.  Thanks for the heads-up.

The all purple heart is sooooo sweet....

11 Geckos.. Absolutely awesome!!

What did I do today? Well, the day just started  (8:15 AM here) but yesterday I mounted a Kahler bridge on my jazz bass. How about that?

and one more for a baker's dozen.

Nearly forgot to breathe for a moment there.

That's an expensive wall you've got there!  So many pretties all in a row.

Also, how do you like the P/MM combo?  I've been considering such a pickup mix for someday when I have actual money again.

What is the body wood of the sixth one? (one up front in the third pic) It's totally awesome :O :O :O

The top is figured Walnut, and the body is Mahogany.  The pictures don't show it, but there is a thin Maple pinstripe as well.

It's interesting.  I probably wouldn't have ordered the body with this pickup combination, but it was a great deal on eBay that I just couldn't refuse.

It ended up working out well since the Delano pickups actually sounded really good in these particular positions.  The "P" pickup especially sounds good to me because it has a lot of clarity in the midrange - much more than I would have thought possible for a pickup in this position.  But that's just how Delano makes pickups, I guess.  It sounds nothing like a vintage P pickup, and I like it.

Also, the MM pickup cavity in this position (instead of the usual "sweet spot" placement) really brings out the different tones available with both "coils" of this particular pickup.  Finally, the MM pickup cavity was large enough to hold just about every other pickup that I wanted to try, so for a while this body was my "testbed" for a wide variety of bridge pickups.  That was a fun experiment!

Have you posted pics of the 5th bass from the end??

Are you talking about this one, with the black body?  I posted pictures a few months ago:

I'm talking about the one between Purpleheart and Walnut :)

Oh, this one?

IMG_0159.JPG

It has a solid Koa body with a flamed Koa top.  The neck is Maple with a dark brown gloss finish, an Ebony fingerboard and a matching piece of flamed Koa on the headstock.

I found this on eBay last year for a great price.  Since I took this picture, I replaced the Lane Poor pickups with a pair of Q-Tuners.

Gorgeous!!! Wish I had money to build a Gecko or this new 32" J...
One of the nifty things about building Warmoth guitars/basses is that you don't have to shell out $1,500 for a "kit". You can sorta nickel/dime it. Save up and get a body, then save up and get a neck, then a set of pickups, then a bridge, then tuners, then miscellaneous, then you have a $3,000 fiddle. Might take you 6 months or a year, but somehow it's easier to do that way than to part with $1,500 all at once. Sell something, do some side work, get some overtime, money gifts, etc. all fold in nicely over time. And don't disregard the Craig's List/eBay route. Lotta folks buy a neck or body and for various reasons can't follow through, or the parts get left over from rearranging other instruments. You can pick up some nice stuff pretty cheap that way. I recently bought a new solid mahogany hardtail Strat body with a contoured heel that hasn't been touched for $100. Would have run me $300 from Warmoth. In the same neighborhood, I have a VIP body still available with a quilted top I could have for $250 (I may end up with that yet <grin>). So, keep your eyes open. At those prices, you can almost go out and collect returnables to finance a guitar over several month's time.

man, I'm getting red on my account every month this year and the thing is not going get better soon... plus the absurd taxes here and having a poor currency, I can't dream of having any Warmoth products in the next 3 or 4 years, if anything change (like win the lottery) I've just got a mortgage and it's expensive and last 30 years... already thinking in sell this &%&

I don't know where you live, but here they're practically giving away houses. Problem with that is two-fold: People can't sell their existing houses because they're upside-down on their mortgages, so they don't have the down payments the banks are now demanding (like they should have been doing before), and the tax assessments haven't caught up with the new dramatically reduced real estate values. So, you can buy a $300K house for $120K at low interest, but it's still being taxed at it's $300K value. As a result, while great deals abound, it's difficult to take advantage of them. About all anyone can do is stay put.

How do you like them? I'm really interested in the Q-Tuners, but there's not many reviews I could find online.
