Hey, what do you guys think are the most beautiful finishes on a guitar?
Pics would be awesome.

I like this one:

Goldtops with a mahogany back

Butterscotch Blonde Teles

Some sunburst Les Pauls are amazing

Tonars finishes, of course.

I think that's more a piece of beautiful wood than a beautiful finish.  The finish is nice but the wood is what makes it so cool.  Kinda hard to separate the two, I guess....  :icon_scratch:

Anyway I like most of the bursts in the showcase.  :icon_thumright:

Perhaps.  The color of the pickups, choice of knobs, masked binding, carved top, all of them add to the beauty.  If I saw this same piece of wood made into a coffee table, picture frame, bar stool, pool cue, car interior, I wouldn't be nearly as moved.

And to Max's question, I like (traditional) bursts, clear finishes.  I've never been a big fan of reds or a lot of the bright colored bursts, but a few come along that make me rethink that from time to time.  For solids, I love Black with a maple fretboard, Sherwood Green Metallic w/competition stripe, and Inca Silver with a dark fretboard.

I'm a big fan of solid colors (I don't like guitars that look "busy"), but I will make an exception to a nice Honey Burst.

I ain't got a pic for an example.

I really dig that guitar max, another one i think is sick is this one

Yeah, I agree that the wood is extremely important.
That's what the pics are for  :icon_thumright:

That blue LP is sweet, but I really dig the tigers eye one.

The thin flame really fits that.

I like wider flame on a vintage-y sunburst. Tobacco bursts can look wonderful.

And while looking for that picture here, I found a post I forgot I made

Any that reveals the grain of the wood. Solid/Opaque look cheap, uninspired, and sometimes ridiculous.

I'm not normally a big fan of the flamey or stripey figured wood stuff, (or gold hardware) but this one knocks my socks off.

I think every element on that guitar works in perfect harmony to create a unified look.  With the gold, brown and red tones, it's like a little piece of autumn wrapped in a guitar.

That one looks great as a completed guitar, definitely. The finish looks good, but not great alone, IMO. He didn't want a flashy finish, so he may have gotten exactly what he wanted.

Good choice, though.

I like the dyed one piece flame maple tops. they look rad (not bookmatched) theres none on the showcase right now.
Also. flame maple that can't decided whether or nto to quilt.

I used to own this one:

Amazing combintation of a nice piece of wood and professional finish.

Bit gaudy for my taste, Eric... is that gold grain filler?  But it is a very impressive finish.   :kewlpics:

Here's my LP, another killer finish from the Warmoth shop...

(This picture makes it look a little greenish... it's actually got more of an orangey tint.  :dontknow:)

Edit: Someone posted some pics of these AWESOME flame maple mandolins.  I forget who made them.  The poster said he was trying to emulate this guy's finishes and I could see why :)

DBW, I think you are one lucky man to get that guitar.
The finish is superb.

Sorry, Eric, but I'm not crazy over that finish. Are bassist always more accepting of radical things than guitarists? It looks like a well-done finish, but it's not for me.

Volitions Advocate (What's your name?), That L5S is unique, but I can't decide if I like it a ton or not. I think the huge flame at the bottom throws it off.
I really want to see more one piece maple

Wild maple can look sweet, too

I wish they'd make on in Tiger's eye dye. It would look AWESOME.
