this kind of figuring in western soft maple is often referred to as "sausage quilt" due to the regular round patterning that looks like numerous sausage links have been impressed into the wood
it's not official woodworking nomenclature, but more of a common layman's name for the figuring type. the top on my referenced bass is not this extreme in its figuring - the top in this image is actually quite rare to find
