Of course not.  Money is always the question and the answer.    :icon_biggrin:

Geritol should be not only for me, but for you, as well.  We are pretty much the same age.  :icon_biggrin:

I know this is a Warmoth board (and I definitely hope to build a long-scale Warmoth LP at some point), but if you find the cost prohibitive, find someone's used Epiphone LP and upgrade it. I did that about a year ago and couldn't be much happier with it. SD '59 pickups, Planet Waves tuners, new CTS pots and so on. Total cost about $450 or so.

Just something to hold me over until my money catches up with my ambitions.

you guys. look:

Women= TIME x MONEY

TIME is MONEY

therefore: MONEY=TIME

Women= MONEY x MONEY

Women = MONEY^2

so to get more money, you get more women. Vol. Knob's stepson knows what im talking about. he must be ROLLING in dough by my calculations.

The part that was left out is this.
If women = money^2, then the square of women = money, but money = the square of all evil, therefore women = evil, which is a lie.

:doh: You guys lost me after "Women"  :doh:

I think you mean the root of women = money = root of evil.  Therefore women = evil.

In my experience, women = evil works out pretty well.  Not complaining about that mind you...

Well, I would say the root of all evil doesn't mean evil itself.
So if women=money=root of all evil, that means women=root of all evil, which is not the same as root of evil.

The simplest way I can think of putting it is this:

Warmoth guitars are for "PLAYERS", not collectors or market speculators.

I consider Warmoth the custom shop the big name builders "claim" to be, but aren't. If you need anything more than what Warmoth does there are plenty of luthiers out there who can build you anything you want from scratch.

If you want resale value, buy the corporate over priced PRS, Gibson, Fender, Suhr, (insert other names here), etc.

From what I've seen, the Gibson Les Paul Studios are the best bang for the buck big name guitars out there right now. I have a Gibson Gothic LP and a Gary Moore LP (the original, not the BFG) and they both play great.

I suppose I made it seem like resale value was important, but it was really just another stick in the fire.  I guess I simply don't see any good reason (aside from capitalism, lol) for the huge mark-up of a carved top.  If a carved top instrument can be purchased for half the price of an unfinished, non-rare wood Warmoth LP body, it just hits this feedback loop of "wrong" in my brain.  I don't like being taken advantage of, and that's why I won't buy the trash that Gibson generally produces lately.  I also won't let myself buy a Warmoth LP either.  It just seems like they're riding the wave of over-priced Gibsons as justification for those prices.  Again, I'm not knocking them for making money.  I'm just saying it's unfortunately not worth it for me.  I can afford it, I just worked too hard in my life to throw more money at something than it's worth.  I was lucky enough to have had a great goldtop for years before it was stolen (from my church, no less), and I miss it even more when I look at what people pass off as a good LP.

Just a little food for thought here.  The last large scale price update from Warmoth was between 3 and 5 years ago.  In that time, materials, labor, taxes and every other expense has gone up.  Warmoth has avoided the annual price increase that so many companies take.  There's been concerted effort to keep prices as low as possible and not cut corners.  In fact, I would suggest our quality control and product offerings continue to grow.  Carved top LPs require more labor and materials to produce and, as a result, cost more than a Tele.

Warmoth LP standard...ALL the trimmings...around $1735 I calculated for SD pickups at $100 each and grover tuners. rest of the stuff from Warmoth

Gib standard gold top  $2500
Gib standard 08  $2700
Gib standard 50'th $6000
Gib standard 59 RI $5700
Gib 1960 VOS $5700

looks like the Warmoth wins..this one would have the uber crazy double lam top the gibs would have whatever crap was laying around in their shop. if you are really bothered by the price, buy the epiphone version for about $550-$650

Brian

If you boys are hung up on the price I have an LP body and neck up over on the sale board.  $600 for the body and $300 for the neck.

My Warmoth Les Paul cost almost exactly $2000.  I justified a really awesome neck and body to myself by saying "it's still cheaper than a Gibson..."

I don't think that you're including assembly and setup costs in those prices.

When I was looking at these a few months ago, it was either the Classic or the Standard that has tone cavities and was cut on a CNC machine, and it would have actually been a few bucks less than the Warmoth build @ just over $2000.
