Fresh out of the box, is my new Soulmate Guitars neck bulit by Doug Darling.  Tonar has graciously agreed to finish it for me but it will be 6-8 weeks before I get it back  :sad1:  so, until then, here's a little taste of what I am looking at:

Some of you may be thinking, "It's not a Warmoth neck, why is he posting it here?"  This neck will be mated with this VIP Showcase Body (yeah, yeah, pics or it don't exist - my camera died):

hey, no worries, even if that was going on a usacg body, I'm sure all of us would be glad to see the post. That is a very nice neck. I can't wait to see the completed guitar!

Very nice. Has kind of a McNaught look to it.

Sweet Flame, too. That's one heck of a neck!

Hey, beautiful body with a sweet neck.  Can't go wrong...
Going to be a real looker  :glasses9:
Keep the pics a coming!
:kewlpics: :rock-on:

Thanks everyone for your comments - I am really excited about this guitar.  I can't wait until Tonar is done with the neck.  Patience is hard..

that is one nice body.  Is it a double laminate top or is the cap solid maple?

I'm embarrassed to say that I have no idea - how can I tell?  It is a Showcase body and they listed as a Laminate Top DL Quilt Maple with a Top Ivoroid Binding.

The "DL" in the description indicates "Double Laminate"...

That would be the one.

Given that it's bound, if you look into the pickup cavities you should be able to see the extra veneer layer that sits on top the maple cap.

Warmoth only very rarely do solid suilt maple caps these days - it's no longer a standard option anymore - as they are apparently hard to find these days, not to mention very expensive.

Not to worry though, I would still have it!

Very nice Chris, that quilt is just stunning...And that's a bad ass neck, Doug does some kick ass work....

This is one he made for me. Wnge with ziricote board, MOP abolony dots and spalt maple lam on headstock.....

Man Doug - that neck is freakin' awesome!  I love wenge, ziricote and spalted maple. :headbang:  I was shooting for ziricote but he didn't have any left so I "settled" for some streaky maccassar ebony on the fingerboard and the stripes on mine are wenge.

The pictures I put up really don't do this thing justice.  I'll post more pics when I get it back from Tonar who has convinced me to left him finish it in oil.  I prefer unfinished necks like goncola and canary so his oil finishing process sounds like a great option.

not trying to sell ya on anything, but I finished my soulmate neck with roughly 10 coats of wipe on satin poly, and it still has that unfinished feel. quite nice really

Thanks for the input - I just can't think about the finish anymore.  I went round and round considering all the options (shellac, lacquer, poly, etc.)  Tonar said the nice thing about the oil finish is he can refinish if I hate it.

Tonar discribed his method of oil finishing necks and I think it sounds great.  I know that I am going to try one.  I think you will love it...

It does sound like a great finish doesn't it?  I love my unfinished goncalo neck - I;m thinking the end result should be similar.  Once I got over the idea that the oil finish doesn't protect from dings and that I was already subject to that problem with the goncalo , I was on board.

I love the look of the blue dye top with the clear mahogany back...it's just a great combination...there was a carved top soloist with blue burst on flame on mahogany back in the showcase during the sale...I wanted it sooooo bad then when I had the money someone else already bought it. Devestated!!!  Hopefully we'll see it here on the forum soon...    :rock-on:
