well i am ready to get a neck. I have been intensely looking for like two weeks. the only problem is PICKING  ONE!!!!. I like so many different ones. one strange thing. I want straight 9.5 radius and 6105 frets. but i found a super nice one with 6150 frets and compound radius. would it be so bad going outside of the box for this one?

A lot of folks swear by the stainless steel frets, which aren't an option for the 6150, so if you're a fairly aggressive bender or play heavier gauge strings that might be a reason not to go with the 6150 neck.  I also haven't personally played the compound radius, but I think it's a genius idea and will definitely go that route when I'm ready for the next Warmoth build.

So my personal taste would be to get the 6105 SS frets on a compound radius neck, but if the 9.5 radius is your ideal, don't compromise.  And if you have money to burn, buy both. :)

Hey, Corey. I'm glad you mentioned something about the 6150s that I can actually quantify. I play heavy gauge strings and I bend a lot ... and I went with 6150s on my Jazzmaster neck because that was the result of my "I don't know what the #$%@ to do" whimsy. Based on your assessment, I might have made precisely the right choice. Phew...

I like the compound radius neck.  I also like the SS6105's.  I also like to strangle the thing when doing bends on the lower frets.  There are two issues I see with what you have brought up.  One, you like the 9.5 " radius and you know it.  Two, you are interested in the compound radius.  You might just have to get one of each to figure out if there is a big difference to your playing style, and keep the one you like best.  Or build the project, and have the first piece of project two already waiting.

I use  52-10 gage string sets and bend a lot. I just did a refret of two of my old Genesis guitars yesterday. Used 6150. Wider frets last longer and to me feel smoother sliding up a neck.

Absolutely not true. I have SS 6150 frets on My Warmoth.
The SS6150 weren't an option until last week officially. We fretted a few necks in the past months with the SS6150 for the Showcase though.

SWEET!!! I've been hoping you guys would eventually offer that.

Anyways, for the OP...

I own both a 9.5 radius and a compound radius neck and if I had to choose between the two, I would go with the compound radius. As far as playability is concerned, it beats the 9.5. It feels great and sets up just as easily as a straight-radius neck. And go with 6150 stainless frets if it fits into your budget. For me, the 6105's are a little too narrow.

'Must have been a Warmoth thing. I got my USACG neck over two years ago with SS 6150s.  :icon_scratch:

Ah, no I didn't mean globally, I just didn't think/know that W offered it at the time I posted that.
