What albums have your dream tones?

For me, without a doubt, Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend."  Amazing Brendan O'brian produced vintage tones, Richard Lloyd on the mad Strat, pedal steel, 12 strings, big acoustics... This is in my top 5 favorite albums ever, for the guitars tones and the songwriting.

ZZ Top's Tres Hombres

Specifically on Vinyl (yes it makes a difference).  Every time I crank that up I understand the Les Paul into a Marshall.

Live. At. Leeds.

also,

Baba O'Riley (live version from the kids are allright DVD)

Marc Ribot on Tom Waits' "Hoist That Flag". The holy grail of distortion as far as I'm concerned.

Also, Robert Fripp's 70's tone.

Led Zeppelin - 1st album, others
Deep Purple - Machine Head, others
Ted Nugent - 1st album
Queen - anything
Rush - 1st album, others
BOC - 1st album
Black Sabbath - Paranoid, many others
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak, any Robbo+Gorham
BOC - Agents of Fortune
Van Halen - 1st album, II
Rainbow - Long Live Rock 'n' Roll, others
AC/DC - Back In Black, others
Scorpions - Lovedrive
The FIXX - Reach The Beach
Whitesnake - (eponymous c.1987)
TNT - Knights of the New Thunder
Badlands - 1st album
Megadeth - Rust In Peace
Eric Johnson - Bloom, others

(this list subject to change without notification)

Andy Timmons - Resolution
U2 - The Unforgettable Fire
Satriani - Down,Down, Down and the rest of that album (Joe Satriani)
Some of the Warren Cucurillo stuff in Duran Duran
Steve Morse in Deep Purple
Stuart Matthewman with Sade
Vernon Reid - Living Colour

and a lot more ... luckily ...

I'm currently obsessed with whatever Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick is doing on the songs "Low Life in High Heels" and "Hummer" on their 2003 Special One CD.

What albums have my dream tones?

AHH! SL! You beat me to Rust in Peace!
That's got SUCH a great lead tone the whole album!  Especially the solo on "Tornado of Souls"

I love the close up nylon string sound on Buckethead's Colma.

Metallica - Really Everything! hahaha! Especially the rhythm sounds on Load and Re-Load. For example: "Until It Sleeps" and "The House that Jack built" "Prince Charming" sounds pretty good too. The solo on "Outlaw Torn" and "Fixxxer" too.

The acoustic sound on Toad the Wet Sprocket's Dulcinea is soo dreamy. Delicate and powerful like the breath of God.

Everything Lindsey Buckingham played on Fleetwood Mac's The Dance DVD sounded great too.

Dime's sound on The Great Southern Trendkill. So crazy! Even Crazier Live! R.I.P.

Meshuggah's sound on Nothing. The opening notes to "Stengah" make the funk fly out ya speakas!

C.O.C. sound on Deliverance still floors me. Pepper Keenan in general gets me all pumped up. Sound on America's Volume dealer is great, kind of sucks on Arms of God though.

Tool Aenema. DAMN.

Slayer - Divine Intervention.

Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood

Mastodon - Leviathan.

Biddy Guy - Damn Right, I 've got the Blues.

AHH!!

Steve Howe - Long Distance Runaround, Siberian Kathru, Southside of the sky... actually a lot of Steve's Work :)
some others mentioned are really good, John Sykes on 1987, Robertson/Gorham, some early the Edge..

there is some really great strat sound on Robert Plant's Fate of Nations.. I am not sure who played it, but I think it may be a someone who died recently..

Aha, Found it...
check this out - this is a perfect strat tone..

it would be really hilarious if someone points out that it was actually recorded with an LP..

mike bloomfeild on Butterfield blues band east meets west
scotty moore sound on heartbreak hotel

mark knophler on sultans of swing

Lets see....

BB can be counted on (usually, if the house isn't too bad acoustically)

Just about anything from Dickey Betts.

I sorta recall Robbie Krieger's tone on some the earlier Doors stuff as being one to emulate (and played on solid state Acoustic amps too)

George Thorogood has a great tone, usually plays an ES-135 or ES-137

Just a few that come to mind

EVH - Van Halen I
David Gilmour - everything he's ever played
Dimebag - Cowboys from Hell
Vito Bratta - White Lion 1st album
U2 - Joshua Tree
